It’s not about the material in question, it’s about if a state employed teacher has the right to override the curriculum. They do not.

Say I believed the earth is flat, and provided ‘well documented science’ that the earth is flat. Who’s to say that I shouldn’t be doing that? Or what if in social studies class I provided proof that men were superior to women?

The law is clearly in the moral wrong in our current situation, but in general it provides more protections than it does harm. The problem isn’t with Tennessee vs Scopes. The problem is with the Republican agenda.

I would recommend two pins.

One being the season one you’re proposing… and a second for a focal episode to discuss and cycle it out every two days.

So for the first two days we’d focus on the first episode (episodes? It’s a two parter) then the pin would be swapped with the next episode.

This would allow more in depth discussion while acknowledging binge watching.

When I saw the headline, I thought this was clickbait, since the headline and the linked article avoided quantifying how much CO2 the vehicles said they consumed vs the real world usage.

Table in Question

If you dig into the cited materials, it turns out it wasn’t hyperbole.

That said, I still consider it extremely poor form to omit the information the study was centering its argument around.

Wooster,
@Wooster@startrek.website avatar

To be fair, I’m really just judging the EC’s article writer. Not the trustworthiness of EC or the study itself.

Wooster,
@Wooster@startrek.website avatar

TBH, the most astonishing reveal from the study for me was that Hybrid owners weren’t charging their vehicles. Unfortunately, the why isn’t covered in the study since it seems to just be hard math and statistical analysis.

Are they just not plugging in at night?

Too frustrated with the battery draining too quickly?

Driving too far for the battery to meaningfully contribute between charges?

Is the extra hardware mass making the ICE that much less efficient?

Laziness from having to fill both the battery and the gas tank?

Wooster,
@Wooster@startrek.website avatar

I feel like this is a large portion of the missing puzzle pieces. The difference between real world and advertised ICE stats are somewhat padded, but not significantly. You’d expect the hybrids to have a similar degree of discrepancy, but it’s wildly out of range of expectations. It may simply be that the manufacturers are giving idealized stats, since while testing they would have access to their personal charger in a laboratory environment. But in the real world, owners cannot guarantee working/accessable chargers or even that they can charge at home, which would dramatically impact the results of this study.

Or at least, I’d assume that’s the case in the US. I don’t know what EU’s charging infrastructure is like, where the study was preformed.

Mmm. Did Russia even need to incite it, or just toss gasoline on the flames that are already burning?

Ford is working on a $25,000 compact EV (www.fastcompany.com)

Small EVs are a big market abroad—a stark contrast to the gigantic offerings like the Ford F-150 Lightning and the plethora of electric SUVs that are prevalent in the U.S. But the small EV market here is growing, and Ford is getting in on the action. The automaker is pivoting to smaller—and cheaper—electric vehicles....

@Wooster@startrek.website avatar

There are reasonable reasons for wanting a greater range than you expect to use on a regular basis. Not the least of which is a power outage or your own home charger choosing an inopportune moment to kick the bucket, as you are your own gas station manager.

Wooster,
@Wooster@startrek.website avatar

Yes, and I personally would rather avoid paying a premium over the electricity I can get at home. If I intend to stick to that, then I have to be prepared for when Murphy shows his unwelcome face.

What happens if Trump simply disregards the monitor, and posts bond?

Wooster,
@Wooster@startrek.website avatar

Again, my question stands, what if he ignores the monitor and posts bond? What’s preventing him from just doing what he wants?

Wooster,
@Wooster@startrek.website avatar

TBH, it’s surprising it took until the Wii for Nintendo to learn this lesson on console.

Heck, the GBA didn’t even have an original Mario Playformer.

Can’t read the article since it wants me to disable my adblocker, and that ain’t happening.

But, if the campaign is skewing African American women… then why does the billboard for this article depict a white woman?

Trump's invite to major donors prioritizes the committee paying his legal bills over the RNC (apnews.com)

Donald Trump’s new joint fundraising agreement with the Republican National Committee directs donations to his campaign and a political action committee that pays the former president’s legal bills before the RNC gets a cut, according to a fundraising invitation obtained by The Associated Press....

Wooster,
@Wooster@startrek.website avatar

Just because Trump may be out of the picture, doesn’t mean the folks who watch Fox suddenly disappear into the ether.

Wooster,
@Wooster@startrek.website avatar

Is that even possible at this stage? Car battery technology is still very much in its infancy and alternative forms of storage are an intense point of investment.

I certainly agree that that should happen, but I feel like we’re still in the Wild West era of electric cars.

You have to pick something to have US dollar be backed by, what do you pick?

My best (stupid) guess is weapons. US gov has a ton of weapons. Already sells tons of weapons. Now the prices will always remain stable. Other countries would love to know that 30 million usd would always be able to buy an f15. Other countries declaring war will increase the value of the USD, as buying weapons from us government...

@Wooster@startrek.website avatar

But then profits would hinge upon such concepts. It might actually be brilliant long term.

@Wooster@startrek.website avatar

Nah.

That isn’t an oversight in their mind. The objective is to ban all forms of abortion. Legally, it’s a form of compromise, but in their view it’s a loophole.

The next crusade is that already limited window.

“There’s every intent of a new movie coming out in the very near future”

I’m reading this to mean that the S31 movie is coming out sometime this summer. Between Discovery and Lower Decks. After October or so doesn’t sound ‘very neat future’ to me.

I’m also not reading much into the ‘trying to figure out’ how to get the movies to the big screen. We know that S31 will be a P+ exclusive. Regardless of if it’s because of some preexisting contract with what was CBS All Access when the original project got green lit all those years ago or because S31’s lore leans too heavily on S1-3 Discovery to stand on its own, S31 was never going to be in major theaters.

The purported Picard, Kelvin 4, or even the pitched Lower Decks movies? Those are probably going to actually be in theaters.

Wooster,
@Wooster@startrek.website avatar

McMahan has previously tried to garner support for a LD movie, live action at that, but there’s nothing to suggest that it’s been greenlit. If anything, we may have gotten LD S5 instead.

Wooster,
@Wooster@startrek.website avatar

I’m not gonna shed any tears on that, but this is peripheral to the root issue and why that commission is out of control.

Solve why homes cost a ransom in this first place, and that 6% commission should drop proportionally.

Wooster,
@Wooster@startrek.website avatar

Or, ya know, regulate rampant price fixing.

Wooster,

Yeah, no it’s an entire industry.

Programming to feature Star Trek: Discovery’s fifth season premiere and Star Trek: Strange New World’s musical episode sing-along!

Wondercon is March 29th through the 31st.

TBH, it feels a little barebones…. But with Picard finished, Academy in very early development, Prodigy out of Paramount’s hands, and Lower Decks expected for late 2024… there really isn’t much else they can bring to the plate, aside from maybe the S31 movie.
