Hurricane Irene in the Caribbean in, what, 2011? Luckily we were tucked up safely in a hotel with a concrete structure but it still scared the crap out of us.
We thought our windows and patio door were going to blow out and we used all the bedding and towels to stop water coming in under the door. It soaked up so much water that we couldn’t lift them in the morning.
Thankfully I think it dropped to a cat 2 (?) as it hit land, so damage wasn’t as bad as expected. Still, our hearts broke when we saw the damage to the island and homes as we returned to the airport a few days later. I don’t know how the locals deal with it every year.

Anyone with more than two brain cells to run together, who learns about the “Spanish Flu” of 1918-1920, should immediately say “I’m getting vaccinated, I’m wearing a mask and I’m self isolating”. 50 million people died. 50 million! We got lucky with COVID because so many people unselfishly did those things.
The clinic we use in Ontario probably for tired of registered patients going to other doctors, but we had no choice. We couldn’t get appointments with our doctor for weeks if not months. They started displaying posters warning us against going to other clinics but I don’t recall there being any of getting struck off the list as a result.
The clinic started offering walk in appointments on Saturday mornings for registered patients as well as evening appointments for more urgent, non emergencies.
Now they’re slow starting to charge for more and more small things that used to be covered by OHIP.
Good question! I suppose you could ask for another referral to a different surgeon for a second opinion but I’ve no idea if you’d get an appointment. Note that it’s usually months from getting the referral to getting the appointment.
I think the chances of getting a second opinion from another doctor are ZERO for the reasons stated in the article.
I feel sorry for Barron, and not just for his first name. He looks so unhappy. I hope he’s relatively normal compared to his siblings, despite them and his dad.
