I believe it is how self-proclaimed christians are responding to sexual and gender liberty/tolerance. They see it as lost ground in their crusade against deviance. So they are escalating things beyond reason in order to sooth their own conscience.

That’s how I see it. Closeted bigots being closeted bigots.

For me, a few things keep me from sticking with it. The community used to be a problem but it’s not as bad as it used to be. Seeking help online regarding anything related to network services are still rife with the “git gooder” useless fucks. Two months ago I was told, “you shouldn’t be doing this if you need a guide.” I was trying to deploy a Lemmy instance… Using the guide provided by Lemmy devs… That they recommended for beginners… FML with a curling iron…

Another big one for me is access to solutions. I have never encountered a problem with windows that I couldn’t find a solution or at least an explanation for. But I frequently find issues with linux that I am apparently the first to ever experience.

And lastly, it seems like not using a terminal at all to do completely normal things is even remotely possible. Powershell allows all kinds of things that would be otherwise burdensome or impossible, but none of those are required for use. On the flip side, it feels like everything I want to do in Linux tends to require me to copypasta a terminal command, open the terminal, and run. Why? Why is there no “control panel” style settings tools? Why is every setting scattered to the .conf fucking wind? My kingdom for a distro that I don’t have to nano my fucking way through.

Software compatibility??? That is a problem I would love to have when it comes to trying to switch OSs. That would mean that everything else is already working and only MS products are acting up. Also… who switches to Linux but still requires MS Office??? Why does this person exist? Lol

Anyway. Haven’t tried the switch in a few years and it seems like things have changed a lot in that time comparatively to the preceding years, so I may be a bit out of touch. But that’s why I quit last time. I would love to not need windows ever again. But my worst windows day is still better than my best Linux day.

And on windows, you can do all of this without touching the keyboard…

On-screen keyboard

Nice try Linus 😂

I am assuming you posted this in jest, so forgive me if I’ve missed the bus, but these are actually very important things to ask for everyone when approached by LE. Charges get dismissed when they answer them wrong or inaccurately. I many cases, they do not have the right to withhold an articulable suspicion, so getting their lack of a response is extremely important, and these two questions are how you get that.

That said, people can also use them to be obnoxious, so I also assume that might have been the joke here. Sorry again. I’m very dense.

Lol, subtlety is the true soul of wit.

Lol, thanks, my apologies if my responses was superfluous.

100%

That’s rough, I’m sorry you had to deal with that. I went through a situation where the cop made threats, harassed me at work, and followed me around for a week because I had witnessed him planting evidence and discretely told him in case he didn’t realize what he was doing was a crime. I honestly thought he would appreciate the discretion or at the very least inform me of why I was wrong. Nope, he went irrational. So I learned my rights and admittedly was an obnoxious dick the first opportunity I had to exercise them. My response wasn’t far off from this thread’s top comment. It didn’t get me arrested but the guy was furious and made every effort to fuck me over. Luckily he was incompetent and the judge dismissed the docket then chewed him out for wasting the courts time. After that, I’ve remained courteous and civil with cops, but they only get what I am legally required to say, and not another word.

Yeah, it could have been worse. I was very fortunate.

ZMonster,

No one seems to be talking about it, but at least for me, this is easily the most underrated silent hill game, and my personal favorite. Leaving yourself a note slipped under the door??? I got goosebumps.

We are the only generation to acknowledge just how fucked the next generation is regardless of whether they “get a job” or not. We’ve also experienced enough bald-faced ignorance from previous generations that we have the humility to acknowledge that there might be things as we grow that we just won’t understand, and we can tolerate it either way. Or at least that’s been my experience among my age group. In fact I’ve never been more supportive and proud of the younger millennials and zoomers. Our racist octogenary and parent is handcuffed to the wheel and dead set on speeding the car up as fast as possible toward a firework factory and we all in the car calm and holding each other like, “well, we’re fucked but they’re dying soon and we might have time to hit the brakes”.

The most “united” thing about the US is undoubtedly Citizens United. Otherwise, yep.

Appeals court allows California law to go into effect, restricting concealed carry in public places (www.cnn.com)

A US appeals court Saturday paved the way for a California law banning the concealed carry of firearms in “sensitive places” to go into effect January 1, despite a federal judge’s ruling that it is “repugnant to the Second Amendment.”...

ZMonster,
@ZMonster@lemmy.world avatar

Tell all of this to cops.

ZMonster,
@ZMonster@lemmy.world avatar

I think there are quite a few scared people carrying guns around in the US, and that’s very unfortunate.

See “US Police” for more information.

Contrary to what others have said, my insurance IS covering my K treatment, but it wasn’t recommended until I completed some long avoided therapy. You really only have to worry about permanent mood changes if you are manic/bipolar, otherwise no worries.

ZMonster,
@ZMonster@lemmy.world avatar

You’re painting with a pretty broad brush. True, there are some situations in which acceptance is the only realistic option, and therapy CAN ABSOLUTELY help with those too. But to say that all therapy is just “convincing yourself that you don’t have problems” is just the epitome of naivety. You’re helping no one here.

Filter Queen is the only US manufacturer that I know of that makes a decent canister. And also has a very simple circuit. Cord to switch to motor. Also pricey but that fucker just doesn’t quit. I know people that have had one for 20 years, and other than a slight design change in the last decade, they all mostly use identical parts.

then it gets nerfed and they use the new meta gun

OMG, this was what killed overwatch for me. I’m disabled and can’t play games that require fast paced precise and concise actions. So Symetra was my jam. I tried other characters like torbjorn but the all had the same problem. Some 13 yo genji prick would hop circles over my head while my health ticked away and I shot sporadically around at the sky before I inevitably die. But not Sym. All I had to do was backpedal and keep that grasshopper mf’er in my general view. And pop. Pulling him into a doorway with 6 kill lasers was the best feeling the in the world. But that enabled me to be useful to the rest of the team. I occasionally did good enough that I ranked in the top of the match, but I was almost never carried.

And then they nerfed sym because, “nOt EnOuGh PrO pLaYeRs PiCk HeR!!¡!!” No more walking shield. No more turret web. No more over shield for the team. No more wide lock on gun. They turned her into just another precision shooting player. She had a Halloween bag of tricks and they swapped it for a tooth brush.

I watched the video, but burying a good video under a trash article does not a good sauce make. OP should have just linked the fucking video.

From a mechanical standpoint, the new bearing saves a nearly negligible amount of space. Splitting the motor up and moving it to the notoriously wasted wheel well space is what clears up the center of the frame. Still very cool. It’s basically a single output differential, which is already quite compact. No need to split the rotation for turning since the wheels rotation will no longer be mechanically linked.

ZMonster, (edited )
@ZMonster@lemmy.world avatar

I mean you’re not wrong, but without separating the single motor to one at each wheel, you’d still have to translate the power from one point to each wheel. The uni bearing doesn’t provide that benefit. Separate motors DOES. And tuned and articulating short shafts are not a new thing. So even without this new bearing as long as you had separate motors for each wheel all you would have is a short CV shaft between the motor and the wheel. Hell why not save all of the space and just incorporate the motor into the hub??? Since BDC motors are more efficient when wider and smaller, it would be very easy to fit them within current day hubs.

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I honk for planetary gear designs every time. So I’m not knocking this design. It’s simple, machinable, and direct. It’s brilliant for what it is. It’s just not the space saver that they are touting it to be. The video literally showed two seats side by side with a bed in the back. Unless kia started making a suburban, I’m just not that naive.

Ah, really good points. Thanks for the perspective. My expertise (if I may so generously call it that) ends at the manufacture and assembly processes. Thanks for the perspective.

I didn’t think about that. Thanks for pointing it out.
