The only reason not to demolish every bit of brutalist architecture we built in the post-war period is to serve as a reminder to never build any more of it. Because people will forget how awful it looks, and more importantly how cold and awful it is to live and work in.

@hedders There was no excuse for Cumernauld. It stands as a monolith for anyone driving between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

@hedders Milton Keynes was a runaway success! We should do that again… but this time, a bit further away from London.

@BrianSmith950 The Barbican is desirable because of where it is, not what it is. Because of where it is, huge amounts of money have been dumped in to it to make it livable. Without that money, which wouldn't have been spent in many other places, it would be just as bad as the rest.

The thing that is annoying me today? Having to explain for the nth-million time that a charger is not a power supply. They're designed differently. Chargers are designed to provide constant current, power supplies are designed to provide constant voltage.

Today we have double standards, is that better than having a double PE lesson? Time to get stuck into the Raspberry Pi Connector for PCIe and the new HAT+ Standard. #RaspberryPi #Pi5 #PCIe #HATplus https://www.raspberrypi.com/news/double-standards/

For folks saying "Why did it take so long!?" Well, it's not just documentation. There are a lot of moving parts. For instance, https://github.com/raspberrypi/rpi-eeprom/releases/tag/v2023.12.06-2712 which just got merged today.

Reserving judgement on this. While at MicroCenter today, observed that on a Sunday, they had well over 20 Pi4's in 2 and 8 gig sizes in the cabinet. (More of the 8, than the 2.) I'd like to see similar stock of the Pi5, (I haven't seen one in store since it was released) as well as Pi0v2 boards, not sure if those will return. It looks like the Raspberry Pi Foundation is working to restore supply in the hobby market. We'll see if it continues to improve. @geerlingguy @Raspberry_Pi

aallan,
@aallan@mastodon.social avatar

@rusty @geerlingguy Plenty of availability of @Raspberry_Pi Zero 2 W, https://rpilocator.com/?instock, right now in the retail channels including in the US. MicroCenter isn't the only place to shop! Pi 5 availability is ramping, preorders will continue to ship throughout this month and probably into next, but there is also some availability in the retail channel. See https://rpilocator.com/?cat=PI5.
