I just released a full rewrite of my plugin Logstravanza, and I think it's solid. It's still mainly a plugin for plugin devs, as it writes console.*() messages to a file.

New in 2.0:

  • Adds additional output formats, such as NDJSON
  • Adds support for setting the output folder for log files
  • Changes output base file name, w/ optional date stamp
  • New settings tab
  • Logs unhandled exceptions in main thread Promises now (not in workers)

Dear users of Actions For Obsidian, if v2024.1 wasn't the first version of AFO you've installed, could you please check your Applications folder and let me know whether there are two versions of AFO, or just one?

The app was renamed in the last update, to proper titlecase ("Actions for Obsidian" → “Actions For Obsidian”), and I just got a report that for some customers, the App Store installation didn't remove the old version correctly.

About the button issues in for iOS:

I'm very much at the point where I’m pulling my hair out, yelling at the screen. Because just like with v2024.1.1, this EXACT SAME BUILD works a-okay locally and in TestFlight.

But if I propagate the build to the App Store, the buttons stop working. There is nothing in those buttons that is checking for AppStore/TestFlight. 🤬

App Store review taking 2 days every time isn’t helpful, either.

Getting a few reports from Actions For Obsidian iOS customers for who the "Link your vault" buttons don't work.

Actions For Obsidian 2024.1 is out for & ! This update brings a number of new features and some QoL improvements.

  • Support for working with files: Directly save non-text files to your vaults
  • Clearer vault handling, less confusion
  • Get notes by their title, not just their file path
  • Get from Obsidian what’s currently focussed

Support for saving files is pretty convenient! For example, creating a workflow which snaps a picture, stores it in your vault, and then creates a note referencing/embedding the new photo is trivial.

FYI: The string-based vault parameter (i.e. "type in your vault name") will be removed in Actions for Obsidian 1.5.

For most customers, this won't be of interest, because since version 1.3 introduced the vault menu (which 1.5 builds upon!), the text-based parameter was only available in existing pre-1.3 workflows. Meaning: You couldn't even access it when adding a fresh AFO action to your shortcuts!

My community plugin 1.1.1 is out!

Mononote ensures each note occupies only one tab per window pane. It's a good update, I think:

  • Completely rewritten to be more robust and reliable
  • Support for non-note files
  • Support for anchor links
  • Multi-window/-pane support: superfluous tabs will only be closed in the active pane or window
  • Now favors existing tabs over new ones, keeping undo history

New plugin release v1.1 tomorrow. Lots of new stuff, like support for anchor links and non-MD files, better handling of windows and pinned tabs. Basically a full rewrite. Stay tuned!

What would make your life easier when working with your vault on your Apple machines? Is there anything you have trouble getting to work? What are you missing on AFO's roadmap (https://forum.actions.work/t/development-roadmap/16)?

ℹ️ I’m afraid interactive widgets are currently out of the question, the mix of Obsidian API + iOS is not very forthcoming in that regard…

Minor update for my community plugin Actions URI.

Today's v1.3.1 fixes an issue where append/prepend to a periodic note that had to be created first would create the note but fail to append/prepend the text.

Actions for Obsidian 1.3 is basically right around the corner, and brings support for executing Obsidian commands — that's right, run everything your vault’s command palette offers right from Shortcuts!

I will unveil my new app in the next 5 days, come hell or high water. I need to make time to build its launch site! (I know I made the same plan a week ago, but I underestimated the time it would take me to wrestle AppIntents/Shortcuts into the new 1.3 feature in Actions for Obsidian — it's been waaaaay harder than expected).

Long, exhausting day but a good one. I solved the final puzzle on the road to Actions for Obsidian 1.3 — I found a way to make working with vaults much nicer while maintaining backwards compatibility (i.e., while not breaking your existing workflows).

Pretty happy with how the new version is shaping up. Now it’s time for some Star Wars!

There’s not a lot going on yet at the ActionsDotWork Forum but I dig it quite a bit already. My experience is right: the format (message board) lends itself to better discussions. It’s like people sharing a ride on a long trip, having interesting conversation.

Discord/Slack is nice and all but it’s more like people on a bus shouting at each other during short hops. Friendly, sure, but shouting.
