Just came across a phrase “Anti-genocide protests” (no hashtag).

The thing is, even Isr*el should be anti-genocide. They simply negate it being one.

is still my best choice…

As war in Gaza enters seventh month, 1.74 million more Palestinians will be pushed into poverty across State of Palestine according to United Nations assessment (Press Release | UNDP, 2024-05-01)

"... [United Nations Development Programme] and [Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia] released an update of their joint initial rapid assessment ... released in November 2023... The new updated assessment estimates the impacts at six months, with projections for seven-, eight- and nine-months scenarios."

"'... the destruction in Gaza today is unprecedented in scope and scale and coupled with the loss of homes, livelihoods, natural resources, infrastructure as well as institutional capacities, may have deep and systemic impacts for decades to come,' said ESCWA Executive Secretary Rola Dashti. 'This assessment projects that Gaza will be rendered fully dependent on external assistance on a scale not seen since 1948...'”

From the river to the sea, Israel is waging the same war: The Gaza assault cannot be understood separately from Israel’s divide-and-conquer strategy against Palestinians in Jenin, Jerusalem, and Nazareth. (Orly Noy
| +972 Magazine, 2024-04-26)

"The categorization of Palestinians into separate classes — citizens inside Israel, permanent residents of East Jerusalem, occupied subjects in the West Bank, prisoners in the Gaza ghetto, and refugees in exile — is at the heart of Israel’s policy of divide and conquer. It effectively negates the existence of the Palestinians as a single and organic people, while keeping them all under the rule of Jewish supremacy."

"it is crucial not to fall into the trap set by Israel’s policy of divide and conquer. We must see this war in its entirety, and in every territory between the river and the sea, for all of them are defined by apartheid..."

"Since October 7, Israel has been waging an all-out war not only against the residents of Gaza, but against the entire Palestinian people..."

Namely beside Gaza,

  1. West Bank - accelerated ethnic cleansing through the systematic violence of its uniformed soldiers and the settlers; Recent pogroms in villages...

  2. East Jerusalem - plans to build some 7,000 housing units in existing or future settlements in the city; accelerated demolitions of Palestinian homes; tightened checkpoints; hundreds of arrests & administrative detentions...

  3. Palestinian citizens inside Israel - mass arrests of anyone expressing any solidarity with their people in Gaza; the detention of political leaders for organizing a protest against the war; persecution of students and faculty at universities; harassment of doctors, nurses, and other workers in the healthcare system; and even administrative detention.

: Student protesters at encampment determined to stay after judge rejects injunction (CBC, 2024-05-01)

"Students participating in the pro-Palestinian encampment on McGill University's downtown campus drew sighs of relief Wednesday around noon, when news arrived that a Quebec Superior Court judge had rejected an injunction request that would have forced them to leave."

"In Wednesday's ruling, Justice Chantal Masse wrote the plaintiffs failed to show that the protests were causing irreparable harm, nor was there any indication at this point that the protesters intended to block access to exams or McGill's buildings."

"Masse wrote that if she were to approve an injunction to remove protesters, their 'freedom of expression and to gather peacefully would be affected significantly.'"

I'm a professor. Why didn't the administration stop last night's egregious violence? : The university should have anticipated Tuesday night’s chaos — but security personnel were nowhere to be found(Opinion by David N. Myers | Forward, 2024-05-01)

"What makes last night all the more inexplicable was that the university had, over the weekend, seen a haunting warning of what could happen."

"... even they were greeted with insulting words from the other [Pro-Israeli] side, as were members of a small contingent of a local chapter of Standing Together who came bearing signs calling for peace and equality for Palestinians and Jews."

"Before Tuesday ... In the face of immense pressure, UCLA Chancellor Gene Block managed to keep the peace."

"... There has also been increasing pressure on the university from outside forces, including the Jewish Federation, to act more forcefully against the demonstrators."

clashes: Pro-Palestinian protesters attacked by Israel supporters (AlJazeera, 2024-05-01)
———
😰
“A demonstration against Israel’s war on Gaza at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) turned violent when a vigilante pro-Israel mob attacked a solidarity encampment occupied by peaceful pro-Palestinian protesters.

“Witnesses said the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) only intervened after nearly four hours of the attacks, which started overnight into Wednesday when masked pro-Israel counter-demonstrators, who appeared in their hundreds from outside the university campus, hurled fireworks into the encampment.”

“The attackers, carrying Israeli flags, then tried to tear down the pro-Palestinian camp, assaulting students with pepper spray, sticks, stones and metal fencing. Police stood by, failing to protect students…”

Gaza’s unexploded ordnance could take 14 years to clear (UN News, 2024-04-26)

"Pehr Lodhammar, a senior officer from the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), said that the war has left an estimated 37 million tonnes of debris.

"He said it was impossible to determine the exact amount of unexploded ordnance in the enclave..., after nearly seven months of intense Israeli bombardment.

"Every square metre in Gaza impacted by the conflict contains some 200 kilogrammes of rubble, the veteran UN demining expert told journalists in Geneva.

“'All I can say is that at least 10 per cent of the ammunition that is being fired potentially fails to function…with 100 trucks we’re talking about 14 years of work with 100 trucks, so that’s 14 years to remove with about 750,000 workdays - person workdays - to remove the debris.'”
