ahal,

The problem is this relies on the people who make stuff making a huge sacrifice on behalf of everyone else. This won’t change until everyone else is willing to at least match what rich people can offer to people who make stuff. Unfortunately everyone else are not willing to match this unless people who make stuff can offer a product of equivalent value. Making a product of equivalent value takes time, which gives rich people ample opportunity to offer more than everyone else is willing to.

ahal,

Microsoft argues that its AI automation will remove the boring bits of jobs instead of replacing jobs entirely.

This argument is such bullshit. As if Microsoft doesn’t know there exist jobs that are entirely “the boring bits”.

Does a VPN used on a smartphone with Wi-Fi disabled (mobile data only enabled) provide any sort of protection?

I’ve never completely understood this, but I think the answer would probably be “no,” although I’m not sure. Usually when I leave the house I turn off wifi and just use mobile data (this is a habit from my pre-VPN days), although I guess I should probably just keep it on since using strange Wi-Fi with a VPN is ok (unless...

ahal,

I’m experienced enough to know that out of my mobile carrier and ISP, I am the least trustworthy operator.

Best Graphic card for Linux Gaming (lemmy.wtf)

Are they some graphic card benchmark for linux environment ? From my windows experience, drivers are important, and often underestimate. My linux gaming experience is very bad, lots of my game are unstable, and others use a lot more resources than with windows. However, when I ask people, some of them have no issue at all, even...

ahal,

Any relatively modern AMD card should be fine. Also, protondb.com is your friend.

ahal,

It’s $5/month with an annual subscription, but then you can’t go month to month like Mullvad.

ahal,

I don’t defend manufacturers that do this or anything, but personally I hate cords and want to go wireless for everything. Of course a headphone jack doesn’t prevent me from doing that, but given the choice of two identical phones except for a 3.5mm jack, I’m choosing the one without.

Why have a hole that I’m never going to use that can trap dust, allow water in, take up a tiny bit of space and make the phone look less appealing (to me)?

ahal,

I guess I just find a closed chassis more sleek or futuristic? I fully admit this is pretty dumb and it’s definitely not a significant factor in my phone purchasing decisions.

Fwiw I’m not American either. But like I said, I hate cords of any kind. I’d probably buy a phone without a USB port if not for the fact I occasionally need to charge at other people’s houses :p

ahal,

Somehow it’s steam deck verified but opening the virtual keyboard to input character name reliably crashes. Can’t even get past the intro.

ahal,

Yes, everyone deserves a bullshit free social experience. You’re more than welcome to go start your own instance that only federates with other hardcore nerd instances

ahal,

What are the VMs for? Could you use containers instead?

ahal,

That’s about the minimum price for what you’re asking.

ahal, (edited )

In FTL you unlock new ships and variations. In Into the Breach you unlock new mech classes and get to keep a pilot and all the experience they gained.

Fwiw I do agree that FTL in particular is more of a true roguelike.

ahal,

You’re correct that most 5 year olds cannot read… However there’s so much you can do without knowing how to read. Plus kids are very good at pressing buttons and can figure stuff out by trial and error.

ahal,

Try: www.selenium.dev/…/getting_started/

It requires programming knowledge though.

ahal, (edited )

Yes, IIRC there’s a pref or env that needs to be set too… I want to say MOZ_ENABLE_MARIONETTE, but it’s been awhile.

ahal,

Sounds like you want Webdriver (aka what Selenium uses).

ahal,

They’re hoping it gets you to hang up and keep your petty problem to yourself.

Team Trump Is Ready to Lose the Supreme Court Immunity Case. They're Celebrating (www.rollingstone.com)

Donald Trump‘s inner circle doesn’t expect the Supreme Court to go along with his extreme arguments about executive power in the immunity case before the justices. But what the high court does now is almost beside the point: Trump already won....

ahal,

Nah, OP means literally survive. Have you seen that walking dust bag? No way he has another four years on this earth.

ahal,

(To be fair the first one was a memorable experience… Hopefully this follows suit)

ahal,

Thanks, wishlisted!

ahal,

I wish there were more short triple A titles. Like 10 hours main quest and 30 hours to 100%. Put those massive resources into quality rather than quantity. Give me a memorable experience over a slog.

ahal,

I think you’re overstating the compute power and understating the amount of cardboard Amazon uses
