My keynote from @newcrafts is up. ( https://vimeo.com/949430725 )

In it I argue that we have a MASSIVE problem in our software and sociotechnical systems - one caused by societal power structures. Specifically the dominant patriarchal, post-colonial, late-stage-capitalist ones.

This isn't some abstract problem. It’s in my code, your code, everyone's code all the time.

Check out the talk to hear why this is happening, and more importantly, what we can collectively do about it.

"Surprisingly, our results show that women's contributions tend to be accepted more often than men's. However, when a woman's gender is identifiable, they are rejected more often. Our results suggest that although women on GitHub may be more competent overall, bias against them exists nonetheless."
