I usually work from home, but at the moment I’m working in that zero-energy building. It’s not the most beautiful, but it actually generates more energy than it consumes! There is a small garden on the rooftop with vegetables for employees to pick up and wooden picnic tables. The wooden structure holds solar panels and...
Also, I think alt urbanism is a great community for posting architecture. You could make a new one, but I think it makes sense to do so once an existing sub is overloaded.
I’ve been having issues today with the front page not loading content. Refreshing works sometimes, but not always. I’ve also had some posts show a loading icon indefinitely. When I leave and come back, they usually load. I’m not sure why, but I figure sharing this will help with troubleshooting....
I think the solution is for each instance to decide whether to federate with Threads or not.
The only way an attempt to coopt the Fediverse wouldn’t happen world be if the project failed. If this system is going to work, major players will want to participate, and they’ll want to accrue power and dominate over the system. Creating tools to establish boundaries and checks is fundamentally the point, so I think we should all strive to understand and contribute to the development and administration of institutions we like. And if we do that, and also compel our governments to impose regulations on big tech they WILL come up against limits to their power.
At issue is the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, which will provide $27 billion worth of grants to states, territories, tribes and others for projects that cut greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. Implementing the program, commonly known as a green bank, is a tall order for an agency facing depleted staffing levels and...
Headlines like these feel so effing crazy. What a business trip be in, trying to stop the people who keep the air and water clean from making the air and water cleaner. Boggles the mind.

If the descentralization of social networks continue, we will have to prepare for the eventual rise of the instances wars, where people will start to fight about which instance is better and which one is weird to be in and so on, but that’s for the future of us all.
One popular instance, Beehaw announced that they defederated from lemmy.world and shitjustworks to protect itself from an onslaught of new folks. Beehaw’s admins say that lemmy.world and shitjustworks have let in a lot of folks who aren’t well vetted and are the focus of most moderation action, so they’re restricting access from those two instances.
And I’m over here on an instance with 600 users like, “Hm. That’s a pity. Glad I’m not as basic as those poor folks.”
This sounds wonderful. I live in Oakland California, and I love picking up my kid from preschool with a trailer. It’s not quite as elegant as this, but it is nice that I can remove the trailer and use the bike in its original fashion.

This is crazy. All I can think is how useless Reddit would become if users begin to assume posts on the site are from generative language models. If anyone at reddit IS doing this, that’s like trying to get water out of your boat by drilling a drainage hole in the bottom.

If Lemmy and Mastodon continues to get popular, we will eventually get Instance wars.
