My never ending research into orgroam is still ongoing.

But the need, not just for everywhere, but everywhere posed the obvious question - why use Markdown for your Hugo blog?

Turns out supports native orgmode posts which can coexist with the existing Markdown content.

A test post confirmed this but only after I had to upgrade the Papermod theme and tweak the Netlify configuration for the latest Hugo version.

My blog at https://jan.wildeboer.net might have some problems in the next few days as I have to change the DNS setup due to a spammer abusing that subdomain. See https://social.wildeboer.net/@jwildeboer/112416442812128898

@jwildeboer curious that your new domain provider explicitly does not want publicity or recommendations. Are they wary of an influx of new customers they would struggle to handle?

I've just posted a pretty long request for thoughts on dead code hunting in - all thoughts welcome;

@penguin42 I am absolutely staggered that there are no lint or validation tools that could identify dead code paths and unused variables.

Even worse, the fact that such checks are not a pre-req for a Linux kernel release.

I am pretty sure 'gcc -Wall' did so.

Enjoying Series 3 of Wisting.

Everyone loves Scandinavian detective dramas with lovely cinematography of Oslo and the fjords. Was hoping @matt might be an extra.

Wow whee - just got an email from to say that my yearly subscription price changed from $30 to $50.

Crazy stuff. I get that inflation is a thing; but the site is entirely user contributed data - from the scrobbling of the tracks to editing data and uploading images and links in the database.

And they sell that data to other companies. And haven’t updated their website or apps in so, so, long. The whole thing is pretty much in maintenance mode.

@matt Have you considered MusicBrainz?

@matt Why run the two in parallel ? Did last.fm give you better networking, recommendations or forthcoming gig details ?

@publicvoit I thoroughly enjoyed this post. The way he stresses the choice tool is less important than your work flow and requirements. And the need to start small and just capture notes.

Live at the Witch Trials is the debut studio album by The Fall, released on this day in 1979 and is not, despite its title, a live album.

@historyofpunkrock Recorded in just 24 hours apparently. One of my favourite bands and the one I saw the most live.

@xvilo

To more technical matters

Current Mastodon releases

  • 4.2.5
  • 4.1.13
    mastodon.sdf.org - 4.1.13
    mastodon.org.uk - 4..1.9

With the recent security issue (CVE-2024-23832), is this a concern for mastodon.org.uk users ?

andyc,

@xvilo Oh great. I appreciate you are the sole maintainer providing a wonderful service free of charge and have a full-time day job but just thought I'd ask.

Quick way to force yourself to adopt GNU Emacs.

Add the following lines to .emacs

;; Start server to enable use of
;; emacsclient
(server-start)

Add bash function to ~/.bash_profile

vi() {
emacsclient $*
}

Just moved here from SDF Mastodon which provides an excellent service. Just hoping to discover more UK folk in my 'Local' timeline.

Active on the Fediverse since self hosting my own Laconica instance in 2008 then identi.ca.

Work for Oracle as 'jack of all trades, master of none'. DBA, PLSQL developer, APEX, cloud architect. Still learning every day.

Used for 25 years. Currently trying to use org-roam and orgmode to manage my chaotic notes and TODO lists
