anzo,

Or Inkscape as an alternative to Adobe Illustrator/ Corel Draw/ vectorial design. (The KDE alt would be Karbon, I haven’t tried it tho.)

anzo,

The most concerning e-waste of any renewable source is the chemicals within the battery!

anzo,

My favorite piece of software, together with KeePass. I have been relying on 'em for over a decade probably!

anzo,

Can you share what would be a concrete example of the risk taken by running a RM program with a memory leak or dangling pointers? I fail to see, by my own ignorance, the benefit of memory safety everywhere. But I do enjoy the rust rewrites of shell tools because of the ergonomics, speed, and new functionalities. I’m asking because the first thing you mentioned as a benefit was memory safety.

anzo,

Afaik it’s either LTO tapes or a RAIDZ array, I like ZFS on Linux for that matter. Check the TrueNAS Scale distro for example. There are different raid levels, I use raid5…

anzo,

I had this idea of having a virtual pin board of sorts by self-hosting a forum to a LAN with a Raspberry (or any SBC) at my neighborhood sport club. That raspberry would host a Guerrilla Library, like internetcu.be or the original project, I’d have to look for the link… Sry.

anzo,

Still, why not support Linux? Half of the work is already done, probably

anzo,

Maybe the colors were set before syncing? Try adjusting one to a new color, see if that change is synced. It would be silly, but maybe that’s the case.

anzo,

I just use zoxide (rust rewrite of good old autojump), it auto-bookmarks every folder. But it’s not a problem. So far, I have no collisions. I guess it’s because they’re sorted by recency.

A German state is ditching Windows and Microsoft Office for Linux and LibreOffice on the 30,000 PCs it uses for local government functions (www.theregister.com)

Schleswig-Holstein, Germany’s most northern state, is starting its switch from Microsoft Office to LibreOffice, and is planning to move from Windows to Linux on the 30,000 PCs it uses for local government functions....

anzo,

Lol, it took a while to see the mountain. Also, they should sue Microsoft, if data was transfered and stored in US… AH, no. There’s probably the usual default dialog that you click ‘Agree’ on blindly. Anyway, good news. I hope they invest the money on further development, sponsoring, support, and training of employees.

Selfhosted systrem to monitor daily incoming email (backup reports)

Hi all! I’ve been looking for a selfhosted system that can monitor one or more email accounts and check if a certain email with a particular subject arrives every day (or every x hours) and alert me if it doesn’t (or if the subject is different). I need this to check if backups from different PC have run or not. The best...

anzo,

Depending on how much infra you want to put up, there’s also mailinabox that can do all (email aliases, etc.)

anzo,

How is it “less” private? Because the API isn’t a paywall, sure. But… I don’t know what’s your perspective, really.

anzo,

Assuming that is really an issue (depends on who you are, what you’re doing, and the motivation of the actor mounting such spying infrastructure), how is it any different on Reddit? First, being closed source and everything, we can’t rule out that easier and large scale logging isn’t already implemented. Secondly, such actor would probably just pay the API and scrape the same data if not with more details. It would also get extra metadata from brokers, etc.

Ultimately, if you want privacy, I agree that federation is undesired. That’s why there are Lemmy instances that block all other instances by default. AFAIK those were from right extremists and pesos, at least judging by the name of their URLs.

anzo,

Well, on Reddit any party can pay the API prices that are needed to scrape data. So, the paywall. I guess it’s some measure… But if you are being tracked by such an actor, your threat model can’t really include reddit… It’s defeating the purpose. All this is discussion on air.

anzo,

Oh yes, that’s an issue with Lemmy. Edits don’t get federated, they stay on the instance. I didn’t knew but it makes sense that it’s the same with votes.

I believe the issue is that to keep every updated you’d need a far more complex system, like streaming the changes or CRDTs.

anzo,

Sad news, good reporting. It brings to the surface the relevance of the petition to stop aiding the state of Israel (state) with weapons unless they get ahold of their wrongdoings. Call me naive… but I believe in the polls that showed several times that more than half of the population on either side, just wants a diplomatic solution to find some proper frontiers between countries. But ‘the west’ never recognized Palestine. Even waiving a flag is treated as if ‘blindly supporting Hamas/ terrorism’…

anzo,

It’s “also” interesting that since the armed answer from Israel after the terror brought upon by Hamas, many people expressed concern and views like what I just said. And, the “interesting” part, is that more than half of the people condemned as anti-Semitic (e.g. losing jobs, or with criminal records for what they said publicly) are actually …Jews

Try taking a deep breath before your next witch-hunts. Put your emotions aside, we are all humans and deserve some basic needs and rights not to be alienated. That includes anyone, regardless of ethnicity, religion, political alignment, or …imaginary lines on a map (a.k.a. borders.)

anzo,

Oh, and there are middle grounds between giving drones with bombs, or nothing. I am not military expert, but shields, strategic defense, intel, food, fuel, etc. are all ways to keep giving support (if that’s what Imperialism needs to keep ongoing).

The [absurd] asymmetry is in giving the most powerful weapons to one side, and food plus health supplies to the other. Specially since the other side doesn’t even gets ahold of most of that material. That’s why there’s a humanitarian crisis. The Nakba is perpetrated even through famine… it’s pretty sad that we can’t call that genocidal without getting hit by an angry mob of fanatics.

Assistance migrating from gitea to forgejo

Hi. I self-host gitea in docker and have a few repos, users, keys, etc. I installed forgejo in docker and it runs, so I stopped the container and copied /var/lib/docker/volumes/gitea_data/_data/* to /var/lib/docker/volumes/forgejo_data/_data/, but when I restart the forgejo container, forgejo doesn’t show any of my repos,...

anzo,

No experience, but saw gorgeous has a guide to migrate. Their latest Blogpost states to do that ASAP coz they’re going to stop keeping the drop-in 1:1 replacement to advance in their cool feature set ;)
