In economics class we have to present our business plans and mine is coding classes (probably a summer camp for kids) and I could talk about how the coding classes would encourage kids to not make non-libre software
I wouldn’t consider being a teacher something similar to business but more like an ONG. I don’t mean to disappoint you or anything. I share the sentiment of ‘evangelization’. Just, perhaps, share the idea with your teacher beforehand. Plan ahead, another comment mentioned dual-license, that could be an interesting take. Same goes for what many platforms do, which is charging for support (e.g. research for Red Hat Enterprise Linux business model). Good luck!
This is exactly why we love Python (and other languages with rich package ecosystem, even when only on their niche usage cases). You can build upon other people’s knowledge and effort to do cool things efficiently and effectively!
You’re privileged (no offense!). For some people, a bad economy means losing their jobs, turning homeless, etc. critical hits from which it’s difficult to recover.
I hope I’m not annoying you kind folks too much with my ongoing Tutamail woes, but, in the long slow process of divorcing myself from them (and returning to Thunderbird), I’m looking for an email host/provider that integrates well with TB, meaning that it can sync mail, contacts, calendars, and tasks between the Linux...
Your analogy doesn’t separate the facts that paying for content to the platform is not the same as paying for it directly to the creator. You, and many people, assume that a high % of what they pay really goes to the creator. That’s rarely the case
Also, it’s morally wrong that a platform charges you for content they didn’t create. Yet, know one seems to question that. I’m a bit pissed at people calling piracy morally questionable without looking into the concrete ‘harm’… Hence my post last week, copying is not theft.
For those panicking, here are some key things to look for, based on the writeup:
A very recent version of liblzma5 - 5.6.0 or 5.6.1. This was added in the last month or so. If you’re not on a rolling release distro, your version is probably older.
A debian or RPM based distro of Linux on x86_64. In an apparent attempt to make reverse engineering harder, it does not seem to apply when built outside of deb or rpm packaging. It is also specific to Linux.
Running OpenSSH sshd from systemd. OpenSSH as patched by some distros only pulls in libsystemd for logging functionality, which pulls in the compromised liblzma5.
Debian testing already has a version called ‘5.6.1+really5.4.5-1’ that is really an older version 5.4, repackaged with a newer version to convince apt that it is in fact an upgrade.
It is possible there are other flaws or backdoors in liblzma5, though.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a CD, a Film, or manual with the instructions to build a spaceship. If you copy it, the original owner doesn’t lose anything. If you don’t copy it, the only one missing something (the experience) is YOU....
Tbh, I was just trying to point out that being grateful is possible. In the same way that you return a smile, or give some money when buying goods or services in a context of a solidarity event. For example the other day people were selling hotdogs for “pay what you want” whole raising money for refugee kids. That’s how I approach this, copying/ piracy is “pay what you want” (to creators, not platforms). They made some effort to create it, yes. You are not taking anything from them. Nonetheless, you can express economically your gratitude for what they did. Like, homage to celebs.
Well, because they are under constant ‘attack’, shaming and/ or blaming. The very name is in that context. Affirming your identity then can’t be seen as putting excuses (unless if it were seen from the ‘attacker’ perspective, of course.)

Oh, I meant to be unwilling to give credit card details to an anonymous person running such a biz. I understand they’re not scammer, but nonetheless… I rather not risk it.
Shelter is an app that enables a feature (work profile) on the underlying OS. Surely, Android Go has removed that (among many other features), since that’s their essential concept…
I use it and have no root! For apps that require root, there’s an alternative: enabling USB debugging and using Shizuku app, that’s kinda like non-permanent root afaik, I used with for Cantata (debloating Android, in my case I needed to get rid of YouTube app so that New pipe can be the default app to open YouTube links… Sigh)
I think I'm gonna teach my classmates about libre software!!!!
