argv_minus_one,

This must be the one. Those are some monster queries.

I'm no database expert, but I wonder if it would be wise to break those up into multiple queries instead of joins. Joining post with person and community would result in a ton of duplicate data, wouldn't it?

I'm actually interested in what people have to say about this, because I have a project that's kind of sensitive to database query performance, and I'm worried that I'll find out about some performance bottleneck the hard way like Beehaw just did. The more I learn about the subject, before my project goes to production, the better!

argv_minus_one,

It seems to be working a lot better now than it was earlier today, so I'd say you and your sysadmins did a great job. Thank you!

argv_minus_one,

Any idea why those queries are slow, then, if not because of all the duplicate data? Missing indices or something?

argv_minus_one,

Why would they want to use the semi-proprietary Bluesky when the not-at-all-proprietary Mastodon exists?

argv_minus_one,

I didn't know it was possible to move to another Lemmy instance. How do you do that?

argv_minus_one,

Beehaw uses the same software, which rubs some people the wrong way.

That said, it seems better to use open-source software developed by someone with unpleasant political leanings than to use a proprietary platform operated by someone with unpleasant political leanings who actually bans people based on them.

argv_minus_one,

Meh.

Now, show me a phone with a good physical keyboard, like my old Droid 3 had, and then you've got my attention!

argv_minus_one,

Did anything ever get done about the TF2 aimbot problem?

argv_minus_one,

Been playing a moderately modded MechWarrior 5. The game just isn't as fun without the Clans and their cool technology, so I added the “Yet Another Clan Mech” mod which adds them, but now the game gets crashy whenever any Clan 'Mechs show up. Dunno why. Hoping for another MechWarrior game some time soon.

argv_minus_one,

I pretty much completely agree with you, but I'd like to add “the use of technology to solve problems”. A fair amount of leftists seem to think we should stop driving cars and eating meat, and of course their environmental, ethical, and safety concerns are valid. But we are humanity, the highest-tech species ever to walk this Earth. Surely we can find a better solution to these problems than just giving up and going back to the bad old days.

argv_minus_one,

Some instances don't allow downvoting at all, so I'm not sure if a visible downvote count would be particularly meaningful anyway.

argv_minus_one,

🎼The Internet is for porn🎶

argv_minus_one,

How do the moderators of the Reddit porn communities deal with this problem?
