arthur,

I think this question would fit better on askscience.

The short answer is that the emotions themselves don’t “fade”, but every time you recall a memory, you are also recalling all previous recalls, and the emotions related to the event you remember are not the same as the emotions on each subsequent recall.

We use computers as an analogy for the 🧠, and there are some reasons for that, but they are not the same, and this analogy have limits.

The brain evolved to keep us alive, and reproduce. Keep a perfect record of previous events would be costly and unnecessary for that. “Learn the lesson” and keep a registry that resembles the past is enough.

(But I’m not a neuroscientist, so I may be wrong, missing something or not updated)

arthur,

I’m moving back to buy physical media… But it’s sad that isn’t feasible to buy the entire library that I have on platforms. That would be an whole life effort decades ago, now it’s even harder since the availability for physical media decrease so much.

arthur,

Direct donations maybe?

arthur,

Sunglasses and UV-blocking clothes.

With the first I discovered that I have a high sensitivity to light, now I can see much more during the day.

And the second is very useful, protecting me from sun without the need to worry about sunscreen (except for the face)

arthur,

That’s a bad take. This approach puts the cost on the users’ shoulder when most users are not cheaters.

Why should you pay that price when you are not responsible for the problems they are trying to solve?

arthur,

I am not certainly sure what point you are trying to make? Yes, this is acceptable as there is no better way to avoid cheaters on PC platform. 🤷

I’m not sure about this one. For sure it’s the most cost-effective method to avoid cheaters, but not the “best” way.

Using statistics on the server side could be less intrusive. Checking file integrity on every run could be an option. Honeypots that are visible only for cheaters already happened with success to detect them.

There are possible strategies.

arthur,

The voting system will be the Tideman method

arthur,

The richest person can not be X times richer than poorest person.

Choose the X value wisely. Mine is 1000.

arthur,

That’s why writing laws is hard. But you get the intention: limit wealth inequality.

arthur,

Considering this, the title, and the work itself, I would guess that it is related to neuralink.

arthur,

I want to map multiple inputs to a single button. Like Steam Controller or Steam Deck. I got the Dualsense Edge and the lack of this feature was a major disappointment.

arthur,

It’s hard make such comparisons on “real world” code, and challenges use to be more attractive to people trying to learn, so your hypothesis make sense.

arthur,

Advertising it on work is not an option? Because the technical barrier to change language inside the JVM ecosystem is quite low.

Red Hat stops all upstream and downstream work on desktop Bluetooth, multimedia applications (namely totem, rhythmbox and sound-juicer) and libfprint/fprintd - linux - kbin.social (kbin.social)

arthur,

“Ethical consumption” is fine, but have a very low impact: Most of environmental damage is related to corporations, not by population.

Information is key: To solve any problem, we need to understand it the best we can. So how climate change works? How human action is driving it? Who is responsible? And what are our options? Look for science communicators that reflect the scientific consensus, not the opinion of a small group.

Be aware of/with any “solutions” that is proposed by or also benefits big corporations and the billionaires that owns it. There is a lot of green-washing shit around.

Vote for politicians that have a solid green agenda. Votes matter, but in capitalism, it is not enough. The capitalist system is built to maximize profit over everything else, that’s what will happen if there’s nothing stopping it to happen. So political education and engagement makes difference.

What are your thoughts on restricting children’s access to pornography online?

There are a lot of GOP-controller legislatures in the USA pushing through so-called “child protection” laws, but there’s a toll in the form of impacting people’s rights and data privacy. Most of these bills involve requiring adults to upload a copy of their photo ID.

arthur,

Usually when politicians says “to protect children”, it’s not about children.

Curious, how many users here actually use ActivityPub's capabilities to see other social media sites?

I’ve always wondered how many people actually decide to use something like mastodon to see Lemmy posts. I mean I know how inadequate it can be with a lack of a proper UI but I’m just wondering. Especially, with the infinite possibilities this can have.

arthur,

Some content from Lemmy I prefer to consume on Mastodon.

arthur,

By “fresh login” do you mean “new account”?
