Yeh. That's why we don't rely on satellites for essential communications but instead make sure to always send such by sturdy copper wires or fiber with proper shielding, underground, because anything else would be just... sabotaging entire society.

Well... I say that, but some have proposed that in particular AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint in USA, (which have been getting huge tax subsidies to expand infrastructure since the 90s but instead took the subsidies as profit and expanded near nothing) would soon get the requirement to provide telecommunications to rural areas removed, citing that rurals can just rely on satellite communications instead, so next solar storm they may get to have no communications for e.g. if a grandparent's electric medical assistance machine collapses due to the magnetic storm so there's a life or death emergency and a deathly outcome.
But nooo, trust the spaceclown with that, ya dingbats.

@mistergibson There are solutions that could be almost immune to the solar storm magnetic effects, like using lasers for example, but such laserlinks as the one crossing telecommunications over the Mediterranean for example are instead sensitive to other disfavorable conditions... fog, so fortunately it is only relied upon as a backup for when some ship severs the sea bottom cables with some unfortunate anchor deployment (or at least latest I heard about it).

Putting cables underground instead of using satellites or terrestrial radio also has the positive that it is more difficult to attack, if it ever came to that. I believe every war I have been watching the area of closely while it was starting up, the attacker started by targeting communications antennas for mobile phones, TV/radio and Internet-links first, before they would then start bombing hospitals and committing other war crimes while the world couldn't see as well.
So yeah, digging down copper/fiber costs more, but I think it's a many times more worth it societal investment.

This is part of a years long campaign of directly attacking the locals' agriculture to harm them both economically and to increase starvation.
They do such attacks a couple of times a week and every time it is a war crime, violating several of explicit prohibitions.
Sometimes they even go as far as to steal the olive trees and other crops and take them back home to the occupying State, Turkey, which is a specific war crime called "looting", which is unequivocally always prohibited.
"Whatever, you plant new trees!?!" someone might think? Well, from memory it takes about 50 years for an olive tree to get to harvestable maturity, so in this instance it's 3000 trees of likely at least a generation's work, up in smoke.
And the world goes "meh", because Turkey has does NATO basing, is buddy with Putin and deprives refugees of their universal human rights to travel to the EU to apply with due process, so therefore the people in power love ErdoฤŸan on your behalf.

Israel has now (re)displaced more than 110000 people from Rafah where Israel had previously told people from the northern Gaza Strip of Palestine to evacuate to.

On top of this Israel has now also issued further "orders" for people to evacuate (it does not have authority to issue such orders, that is for the territory holder to do) eastern Rafah as well as the cities Jabaliya and Beit Lahiya in the northern part of the Gaza Strip as it plans to reinvade those.

@MusiqueNow Oh, I believe Netanyahu intends to not stop until made to stop, which means it is up to Biden and Biden is thus almost equally co-responsible for the genocide.
Remember the huge countrywide protests against Netanyahu's corruption and the courts-"reforms" intended to place the political elite outside the courts system's controls, in order to allow Netanyahu to just dismiss the extremely credible charges of criminal personal corruption, so the war against the Palestinian People is also for Netanyahu a war for staying not just in office but also out of prison. So, will not stop until made to stop and only USA's government can do that, unless they stretch it out enough for NEtanyahu to jump ship from USA's bloc to instead be backed by Putin, but that's only possible if Biden acts slowly or not at all, not if Biden acts responsibly and resolutely, soooo... I don't expect the latter.

The Space Weather Prediction Center of USA's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) warns of "severe solar storm" https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/news/media-advisory-noaa-forecasts-severe-solar-storm-media-availability-scheduled-friday-may-10 tonight, reported by several news-outlets as predicted to be the worst magnetic storm for earth in 165 years and called a "cannibal storm".

Sooo... maybe turn off and unplug sensitive equipment and ensure you have water stored in case you rely on electricity (also indirectly) for that.
According to major news-media in Sweden people have already reported electricity disruptions and their lights flickering.

Yep, I now keep getting notifications of Internet-services that I host going down and then up again within seconds while the machines are up and fine, which they never do otherwise so probably network-packets lost due to the magnetic storm then.
My Internet connection has also dropped in throughput by 100-50Mb/s as tested through three speedtest services.

But hey, if you live somewhere where seeing an aurora is possible, those are supposed to be extra nice due to the solar storm.

Also, here's a picture of when the sun was smiling towards earth in 2022, because the picture was in one of the related news articles and it was nice. :-)

Those persons so amoral that they voluntarily choose to participate in "Eurovision Song Contest" (ESC) with its actively and selectively targeted whitewashing of ongoing genocidal acts, war crimes, crimes against humanity, should therefore be considered a threat to society and to you, so you must shun those persons until they credibly demonstrate that they have understood that humanity is more important than their personal profit and/or believed fame, in perpetual infamy.
Such behavior can not be tolerated by any society claiming to value even the most basic of human rights such as to not be tortured or mass-murdered.

The ESC has always been extremely political, choosing to actively support and whitewash dictatorships and other atrocities while suppressing speech for democracy and human rights.
We MUST force them to progress from their old position of thus knowingly and actively choosing to support e.g. mass-murdering Fascist regimes of Franco and Salazar while suppressing protests against such from the start https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6JIgE4qeRY&t=3437s of those appearing even so publicly they could not be ignored.

For this reason I have for as long as I have been able to make my own decisions refused to have anything to do with the ESC, boycotting also every artist that chose to participate and so should you.

This morning about 40 protesters occupied the lobby of the main office for YLE, Public Service broadcaster of Finland, to demand YLE boycott the Eurovision Song Contest over Israel's participation while Israel continues its war against the Palestinian People with genocidal acts and war crimes, which the protesters point out are being whitewashed through the song competition.

"There is space for more [people] and we also are not stopping people from coming to work but only want to remind them about what is happening in Gaza", said protester Wilhelm Blomberg,
also pointing out that YLE's director responsible for creative content and media, Ville Vilรฉn, had said in January Finland may leave the competition if the conflict in Gaza would worsen, asking "My question to Vilรฉn and to YLE is that when is it significantly bad to pull out of the competition? [...] They still have opportunity to show their support for the Palestinian People and to stand up for human values".

The protesters' demands were specifically for YLE's boss to talk to them regarding the demand for a boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest finale.

YLE's chief of security said that the protesters left about 10 a.m.

Another demo will start in 20 minutes against the Eurovision Song Contest allowing itself to be used by Israel to whitewash its ongoing genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, in the host city Malmรถ in southern Sweden.
The previous demo according to major news-media at the time had "tens of thousands of people" participating.

A sea of cops from Denmark and Sweden attacked about 30 protesters at the Eurovision Song Contest area in Malmรถ, southernmost Sweden, uding pepper spray about 8 in the evening, while the protesters continued protesting that the competition has allowed itself to be used to whitewash Israel's ongoing genocidal acts against the Palestinian People in the Gaza Strip of Palestine.
The protesters responded by shouting "shame on you", "genocide enablers" and "no justice, no peace โ€“ fuck the police".

Greta was removed by the cops, twice.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in Malmรถ, the protesters attempted an unofficial world reconrd in participants of the folk dance dabke by surpassing 5050 particpants. It is unclear how many did participate, but the report mentioned that it is possible as there had been about 8000 demo participants on location.

Police detained 20 people in total during their repression night to today of protests in the host city Malmรถ, Sweden, against the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) aiding the genocidal acts, war crimes and crimes against humanity of Israel by choosing to selectively provide whitewashing to Israel while e.g. having chosen to not let Russia participate based on it doing the almost entirely exact same thing, as the extremely self-politicized ESC has traditionally done for about as long as it has existed.
An estimate is that up to 20000 people participated in also the protests during the event's finale night in the host city.
Police's spokesperson said to Public Service radio that "in summary [...] the outcome is entirely excellent".

The huge protests continue as the government of Georgia (the old one, in Europe) again tries to pass the "Putin-law"/"Russia-law" on demanding registration on "foreign agents" by the pro-Putin regime, while the people are overwhelmingly in favor of instead nearing the (supposed) ideals of the European Union.
Here, according to SOTA, some of the protesters move from the original protest location to another avenue because they were too many.

In the capital city of Georgia during the night to today an estimated up to 200000 people participated in yet another protest against the "Putin-law"/"Russian law" on requiring NGOs, journalists and others to register as "foreign agents" same way as has been used to crush human rights organizations and free press elsewhere previously, reported SOTA with these two videos by Ezz Gaber.
