This is the final article in Simon Hattenstone's excellent series on prisoners serving indefinite IPP sentences. They were abolished in 2012 but that wasn't retrospective. 3000 prisoners are still affected. 90 have committed suicide so far.

This is a stain on our crumbling justice system.

It looks like the Tories were using the awful Rwanda detentions as a cynical election ploy in local election week, with the media in on it.
Contacts at Loughborough reporting centre say there have been no detentions at all of asylum seekers reporting for bail so far this week. Apparently, the same is happening in London.
If this is true, it's an absolute disgrace to use vulnerable people in this way.
Meanwhile, others live in fear.

She can try to deliver he economic policy with both hands tied behind her back by the Bank of England, who will do all they can to undermine it, or she can take on the Bank. It's her decision, but there is only one way she can win.

@RichardJMurphy Not a chance. Reeves is ex Bank of England herself. In the Mais lecture she said:

"So let me begin with the Bank of England. The Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee must continue to have complete independence in the pursuit of its primary objective of price stability. And, just so there is no doubt about this: a Labour government will retain the 2 percent inflation target, while the Financial Policy Committee will continue with its core objective of financial stability"

Three artists from art collective Creative Debuts have defended a mural it painted on a house in Ilford, England, paying tribute to Palestinian journalists amid calls for its removal from UK Lawyers for Israel.

Alia Shaikh, who owns and lives in the house, said she personally commissioned the piece because she otherwise “felt powerless” about the ongoing atrocities.
She said "They’re heroes. Without them, we’d have no idea what’s happening.”

Here's the latest Israeli excuse to continue the war against innocent civilians in Rafah:

"Israeli officials claim the Biden administration knew about the latest hostage and ceasefire deal proposal Egypt and Qatar negotiated with Hamas, but didn't brief Israel before Hamas announced it accepted it on Monday."

A senior U.S. official pushed back saying "American diplomats have been engaged with Israeli counterparts. There have been no surprises."

The Home Office is dealing with growing fallout as asylum seekers go into hiding or flee across the border to Ireland.

Predictable and ineffective:

"A group of influential Republican senators has sent a letter to International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor Karim Khan, warning him not to issue international arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials, and threatening him with “severe sanctions” if he does so"

" In a terse, one-page letter obtained exclusively by Zeteo, and signed by 12 GOP senators, including Tom Cotton of Arkansas, Florida’s Marco Rubio, and Ted Cruz of Texas, Khan is informed that any attempt by the ICC to hold Netanyahu and his colleagues to account for their actions in Gaza will be interpreted “not only as a threat to Israel’s sovereignty but to the sovereignty of the United States.”

Rather ominously, the letter concludes: “You have been warned.”
