OMG! In what time frame is that? That’s way too much.

We Are Witnessing the First Stages of Civilization’s Collapse (www.thenation.com)

When and how we might slip over the brink into catastrophe is impossible to foresee. But as the events of this summer suggest, we are already all too close to the edge of the kind of systemic failure experienced so many centuries ago by the Mayans, the ancient Puebloans, and the Viking Greenlanders. The only difference is that...

The core message is valid but it misses the point of the problem which is that the people who will suffer the most from climate change are people living in poorer countries, not the rich world. The impact, although dramatic and highly undesirable, is manageable in rich world countries.

I agree. But for now, I would add. If everything continues as it is, even the richest economies eventually will fail. He mentions migration a key point to the foreseeable problems to those rich countries.

Sigue la cacería judicial del gobernador contra sus enemigos políticos. Sigue usando a la fiscalía y al poder judicial estatal como arma política para aniquilar cualquier posible competencia política.

This is one of the few things this mexican government has done right. I think this was copied from Chile, and should be copied in many countries including the U.S. F*ck those greedy obese factories.

This moron is trying too hard to kill Twitter (X). I really don’t understand how many people are comfortable with his vesianic decisions and keep using the platform as if nothing happens.

A suspect - who fled the scene on foot - was killed by police when found nearby, allegedly still armed.

Police did their job.

I have two of them, a 2017, and a 2019 Pro. I’m still very satisfied with them.

In a new model I want AV1 and VP9.2 support (Future proof and to give youtube HDR).

↑ This is what I really would ask in a new version. If a new Nintendo Switch is due to the end of the year, I think we’ll get a new Shield TV too. Fingers crossed.

Edit: No new Nintendo Switch until late 2024, so new Shield soon.

YSK that restroom hand dryers blow fecal bacteria onto your hands (journals.asm.org)

There was a peer-reviewed report published in the journal for Applied and Environmental Microbiology that studied the amount of bacteria that was blown from hand dryers in 36 public restrooms at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. The sample from the study concluded that as many as 60 colonies of bacteria were...

This comment is the shit. It made me lol.

YSK: you can use a flashlight to direct cockroachs in the direction you want.

Why YSK: If you’ve ever had cockroaches in your home, you would be familiar with the feeling of unease that comes when they escape your clutches while roaming freely within the crevices of your home and soiling your belongings along the way. Before that happens, you can use a flashlight to direct them to your ‘striking...

Oh, that’s handy! I think I’m going to put this in practice quite soon.

YouTube videos within the app are always slower to load than opening the app which is almost instantaneous. I guess it’s good to have for the people that need that, but it should be a setting whether to watch videos in app or opening YouTube.

Inoreader for my traditional feeds, and Artifact. The latter is quite good to show you content you like.

How easy is to get a prepaid SIM-card in the US for travel?

I’m visiting for two weeks and roaming prices are insane, I’m considering getting a prepaid SIM-card. Can I easily grab one in any shop, e.g. at the airport/Walmart? What are the prices? Unlimited data would be nice, but I can survive with a few GBs too, I’d probably need it mainly for navigation.

baruchin,
@baruchin@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve been there and I can confirm that it’s expensive. As an example, here in Mexico, you can get a sim card for $7, and you just refill it with as little as $3 for 6 days and around 300 mb, or $15 for a month and 5 Gb.

Qué triste que no haya nada ni nadie que pare esta situación. Gobiernos van, gobiernos vienen, y siguen las promesas. Es complicado.

I think the alarming rise of ultra right movements is because of the failure of leftist governments around the world. So yes, ultra right will come, we’ll get tired of that, and then ultra leftists will come again. It’s a vicious circle.
