Wifey KILLED this gift for a friend - she seriously did this in like 3 hours last night. Doesn't even come across in the pic how cool this is, she painted (and brought real magic to) my sketch. Has a resin coating over him, and his suit shines.
I knew that IMDb had been around a long time but TIL it predates the World Wide Web, as it was initially launched as Usenet group rec.arts.movies in 1990 and moved to the web in 1993. And it's been owned by Amazon since 1998, because of course it has 🙄
@jake4480 “...to summarize my ideas on the topic, I believe that through social media, electronics, and a growing need to be accepted, young adults are constantly being exposed to the harsh opinions, realities, and ideas that come when a world is shrunk down to fit inside a cellular phone. Not only is our personal life stressful, but now we take on the stress of others and the world around us.”
@jake4480 100% agreed. It’s outside of our control. My father didn’t watch the news much but now he does and he’s miserable. In fact, everyone I know that stays connected to the news is miserable. All that fear and anxiety being shoved down your throat… I just can’t.
@jake4480 Ha! I hear ya! I moved around schools often (my dad was in the military) and there was a couple of years where I barely spoke to anyone. I’d just carry a book around with me for company.
I have heard of the spoons and I use that often! It’s such a good analogy for the capacity of energy.
@jake4480 This has been a concern of mine for years. I mean, it's so unreasonable to just kill off a piece of art and then make it so no one else can enjoy it. I hate it. I really do, but unless they can find some sort of profit in it, I think their happy to let it all rot.
My wife is also tattooless and we’ve chatted about doing something matching but she’s got this weird beef and pork allergy and apparently vegan tattoo ink isn’t super common. So it seems just a bit too risky.
🤣 In hindsight, I think you made the right choice skipping the Butthole Surfer lyrics. It definitely would have been a fun conversation piece.
@jake4480 Yea it’s wild. It’s caused by tick bites. There is another closely related allergy called alpha gal also caused by tick bites. She’s a huge fan of cooking so it’s destroyed her when she got diagnosed. The allergy is technically a mammalian allergy so we can’t eat like bison or elk in exchange. Just poultry and seafood.
She spent years in and out of hospitals with terrible hives in her throat and all over her body. I never would have guessed something like this.
Got my new Soundcore Sleep A20s. They came quickly since the Kickstarter ended this week. I’m super impressed with them so far. It’s a little mind blowing to be able to lay on my side and have no pain.
On a massive sword and sorcery kick today. Watched the original Conan the Barbarian for the 1st time since I was a kid. Then followed it up with the underrated and great Solomon Kane flick.
Saw @robb writing about his favourite games recently (link below) and he mentioned a Tony Hawk remaster. I didn’t know this was a thing, but I LOVED the Tony Hawk games back in the day.
Five minutes on eBay and 11 of my finest pounds later, I have the game too. Just need to find the time to play it now…
@kev@robb You’ll love it. On of the best remaster/remakes ever. Sadly 3-4 were going to be made by Activision closed the team down. Hopefully Microsoft will bring it back!
It’s interesting how so much movies/television/video games/sports news revolves around numbers. It’s all ratings, viewers, sales… since when did any of this stuff matter to the consumer? Why is this stuff so heavily reported these days?
I mean, I don’t care how many viewers Fallout got nor do I care the price of the tv rights for the NFL. Was this type of stuff reported in the 90s and was I just too young to remember it?
@jake4480@bendaubney Yea it truly blows my mind how much people want to talk about it. Like every week here it the latest rating/box office. Just seems like there is so many better things to discuss when it comes to entertainment
What is our oldest active online account? I noticed eBay has me listed as a user in 2000 (although I know I used it prior to 2000). Anyone have a continuous account from the 90s?
