An American friend of mine thinks beans on toast is disgusting. So to all none Brits (as we find it delicious)…is it disgusting to you?

Side note - I find it astonishing that someone from the country that invented “cheese in a can” can find this “dish” disgusting. 😂

@tcely@fosstodon.org avatar

Confirmed. That's disgusting.

A lot of the food from the UK is terrible when compared to food from around the world.

@kev
That looks like an "artisanal" version with its wholemeal toast, sprinkling of cheese, and mini snorkers. 😄
That said, I'd have it with wholemeal, lashings of ketchup, black pepper, and a dash of peri peri sauce.

Kiwi here, looks delish

Cheese is the best BTW.

@kev Never heard of this abomination. Is this for breakfast?
I think it'll have a 🥐 instead.

@kev I’m French and I really enjoy baked beans, even better on toast. Your plate looks delicious 😋

I prefer using lentil curry instead of baked beans on toast! Mainly because baked beans murder my gut, I pay the consequences for a while after consuming the discomfort dish.

caughtquick,
@caughtquick@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev not a massive fan of the cheese on top, but baked beans on toast in general is a really solid dish; definitely one of the best actually British dishes 😂

@IslandUsurper@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev I once had a full English breakfast for dinner with some foodie friends. It’s fine. You should ask your friends if beans and rice are therefore also disgusting, because it’s the same concept of starch on starch.

Interesting that American baked beans are sweeter than British. Maybe I’d like yours better than ours. But I love Mexican food, so I’m more likely to go with what @joel is posting anyway.

@kev I prefer the bread baked in an oven instead of putting beans on toast 🤔

@kev it is my favorite go-to meal and I'm not British.

@kev you have no idea how pleased I am to see that I'm in fact not the only grown adult still putting Heinz beans and sausages on toast 😆

Pro tip: replace the cheese with a fried egg 😉

gnuplusmatt,
@gnuplusmatt@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev its an aussie staple dish too, but that could be because of our shared lineage 👍

mike,
@mike@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev Never tried it, but I've seen worse things for sure. It's not super far off a chili-cheese hotdog.

giantspacesquid,
@giantspacesquid@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev it’s just an open faced burrito with the wrong kind of packaging. I’d eat it! 😬

ross,
@ross@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev It’s acceptable. But no butter (buttering toast and then adding beans is weird) and you’ve got to add some kick like Worcestershire sauce.

dHeinemann,
@dHeinemann@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev Not disgusting. It's not as common here in Australia, but it's not bad.

FunctionKey,
@FunctionKey@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev non-brit here but, I was introduced to several cultures' foods early on, British breakfast included.
I happen to really like beans on a toast, specially with a hashbrown on the side.
Although I never had it with chees on top of the beans.
Enjoy it!

kev,
@kev@fosstodon.org avatar

@FunctionKey You should try it!

Bene,
@Bene@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev sounds interesting. On vacation I tried fries with vinegar and liked it. I'd give it a try, pass it over 😉

kev,
@kev@fosstodon.org avatar

@Bene Wait, vinegar on fries isn’t a thing over there?

@kev here in Germany at least: No, not at all, never seen

brejoc,
@brejoc@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev I’m from Germany and just had beans on toast for dinner. 🤷🏻‍♂️

edgren,

@kev Haven't tried that one, but want to. It looks delicious 😋

kev,

@edgren It is!

@kev Delicious to me, ate it a bunch when i last visited

rameez,
@rameez@social.lol avatar

@kev As an Indian living in the UK, I find it bland and boring. It’s probably the oils and spices in my native cuisine changing the baseline of my tastebuds. I can have beans and toast once in 6 months. Any more and I’d be grumpy.

Cambria,
@Cambria@fosstodon.org avatar

@rameez @kev for a country that colonised half the world to get spices, the brits sure don't put any in their food. 🤣

kev,
@kev@fosstodon.org avatar

@Cambria @rameez Nope, we don’t. :)

We tend to just plunder other country’s delicious dishes.

Not a Brit and never tried beans on toast, but it sounds like a good idea. 👍

brandonwrites,

@kev I’ll take this on the chin for America and yes that’s gross. I mean, you put cheese on beans! What are you, a savage? 🤣🤣
