I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla. She’s been my trusty steed for the last 14 years and is in good working order. I recognize she won’t last forever, and if, god forbid (mostly for her) I get in an accident, I will need to get a new car. So what dumb cars do you drive, and what would you replace them with?
The inquest heard that due to shortages, only Officer B took a body camera that day, but did not wear it for any of the searches he conducted. He told the inquest his priority was “to get out of the car quickly due to the way Bradley was walking”.
If we ever want to be able to have a just police force, this sort of thing needs to be considered sufficient evidence of intent to commit a crime. Either you have a body camera on, or you are a civilian, not a cop
The whole the article is incredibly damning; an illegal stop, a “proactive policing” policy which can so obviously only ever lead to injustice, violation of the right to walk away, targeting without sufficient evidence, police lying about callouts on the radio
I have a terrible el-cheapo 14" HP laptop that I bought from a big-box store a few years ago as an emergency replacement for a laptop that died on me on the road while visiting a customer. I literally went to the store 5 minutes before it closed, bought any laptop they had, loaded Linux on it at the hotel and transferred my...
You have to do that to be a “Chartered Engineer”, “Professional Engineer” etc. Some states require you to have some kind of registration to practice in some roles.
“Engineer” remains an unprotected term in all states and territories as far as I know but I could be wrong. It’s definitely unprotected federally.
Where I’m from “mince pie” is dried fruit and spices, while “mince” is equivalent to the US ground beef (or less commonly other meats), and a “meat pie” is made from beef mince.
It made for frustrating Christmasses as a child because mini meat pies (“party pies”) are delicious and available at every other celebration.
Yep, I’ve got one of those going already! I’m currently working on improving the power consumption so I can run it off a LiFePO4 without recharging every week.

I haven’t played with this too much, but I’m reasonably confident you only need an X11 and a Wayland implementation. Mplayer / mpv can play on “rootwin” on X11. For Wayland I think it’s a layer.
I would argue our society disproportionately economically rewards TE fields and S&M (no not like that) get lip service because if they didn’t get a mention it would be far too obvious how disconnected economic value is from societal value

Police stopped Brad on his morning walk for wearing a hoodie. Ten minutes later, he was dead (www.abc.net.au)
Alternative title: NSW cops murder a kid because he ran home when 4 people in plain clothes pile out of a car and accost him. For wearing a hoodie.
