brisk,

Replaceable caps definitely exist, they are common on glass soft drink bottles where I am. They look just like the plastic lids but in thin sheet metal, complete with perforations and ring.

Some of the screwtop beer bottle style reseal pretty well too.

All the adjacent windows have various minor ailments and phrases like “fix this? Treat that?” It’s trying to give an idea of what chemists can do for you.

In Aus chemists (pharmacists) are medical professionals, capable of providing medical advice and minor treatment, but a lot of people don’t consider going to the chemist for anything other then buying specific medicine (or for some reason, perfume or most egregiously, homeopathy).

And in case you’re still confused, the baby is crying (implied for medical reasons like colic)

brisk,

Amazing how different it feels to hear “racially aggravated harassment” vs “called police officer ‘stupid white bastard’”.

It doesn’t directly answer you but what you’re thinking about is the sort of thing addressed by a book I’m a big fan of, Data Oriented Design. It’s addressed briefly in the online version here dataorienteddesign.com/dodbook/node6.html#SECTION…

“You may not reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble any portion of the output generated using SDK elements for the purpose of translating such output artifacts to target a non-NVIDIA platform.,”

This is literally a protected right in multiple countries, so um…

Engineering has 12 weeks full time.

I don’t know if it’s addressed by the review but TAFE certs often have placement reqs.

Law has something, there was a scandal a few years ago v where students were paying huge sums for placements at some institutions.

Being paid is, unfortunately, not a legal requirement if work experience is a mandatory part of your course.

In SA paid internships exist but are very competitive. Most of my graduating class was unpaid.

I’m very glad to hear that’s an expectation in Qld, companies should be ashamed to offer unpaid positions.

brisk,

I have segfaulted in all those languages.

How Do You Deal With Thumb Stick Drift? (lemmy.world)

So I like to use Xbox controllers (doesn’t matter if it’s first- or third-party) because I like the layout, it’s just comfortable to me. However I’ve noticed that on all my controllers in the past few years, the left thumb stick will start to “give out” over the course of a couple months. For instance I’ll be...

Gender pay gap means women work first two months of the year unpaid - so today is Women's Pay Day (www.thecanary.co)

New Trades Union Congress (TUC) analysis reveals Women’s Pay Day – the day when the average woman stops working for free compared to the average man – is today, Wednesday 21 February. In some industries and in some parts of the country where the gender pay gap is wider, women effectively work for free for even longer...

brisk,

Not entirely, and those factors constitute part of the pay gap and shouldn’t be dismissed out of hand.

If you’ve got 6 minutes and like John Green I’m quite fond of his overview

Bought a 90s build just as the post-covid market explosion was starting.

Missed a rotting wall and carpet from badly installed taps. It was surprisingly straightforward to remedy, cost us under $1k in repairs and new carpet and I suspect saved us tens of thousands on the asking price given the market at the time.

Props for finally doing it, but a modding API was promised more than 10 years ago!

brisk,

I’ve seen far too manny error messages claiming I did something I most certainly didn’t do. This seems like a good way to make those far more prolific.

This is an interesting sounding project, do you have a feed/blog/mastodon/mailing list you’re likely to announce on?

The CSIRO found the industry would fall short of meeting its net zero target, and instead recommended the adoption of a “climate-neutral” target that would require a reduction of methane emissions rather their complete elimination.

The CSIRO has really been captured, huh?
