Why would anyone go help JACK DORSEY build a new social network?

chargrille,
@chargrille@progressives.social avatar

Jack Dorsey not only willingly let Trump & other white supremacist online bullies terrorize Twitter, including the 2016 election & the entirety of the Trump regime, but he also advocated for Musk to the Twitter Board & the public as the "singular solution I trust" to lead Twitter.

He also personally contributed just under $1 billion to Musk's Twitter purchase, making him one of the largest investors in Musk Twitter, just behind Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal & Qatar's Investment Authority.

In August 2022, Twitter's former head of security, Peiter Zatko, filed a whistleblower complaint with the SEC alleging the company participated in negligent security practices under Dorsey. [photo of Ex Twitter security chief Peiter Zatko. Matt McClain/The Washington Post via Getty Images] In his 84-page report and subsequent testimony, Zatko made a number of allegations against the company, including claims it had "egregious deficiencies" around security protocol and that Dorsey experienced a "drastic loss of focus" in his last year as CEO of
Dorsey rolled over his more than 18 million shares in Twitter (a roughly 2.4% stake) into the new Musk-owned company as an equity investor, rather than receiving a cash payout, according to a Thursday securities filing. The transfer means that Dorsey effectively contributed just under $1 billion to Musk’s $44 billion Twitter purchase. It also makes him one of the largest investors in the new company, behind Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal and Qatar’s Investment Authority. ... Dorsey and Musk have long had a billionaire bromance. In 2020, Dorsey called Musk at " bifionaire bromance. ... After the Telsa CEO initially agreed to buy Twitter in April, Dorsey tweeted that... "Elon is the singular solution I trust,”
In other words, the most the CEO of Twitter was able to tell me about specific steps being taken to solve the rampant, site-wide harassment problem that’s plagued the platform for years is that they’re looking into maybe making the report button a little bigger, eventually. .... Or consider later, when | asked whether Trump tweeting an explicit call for murder would be grounds for removal. Just as he seemed about to answer what seemed like an easy question, he caught himself. “That would be a violent threat,” he started. “We’d definitely ... You know we’re in constant communication with all governments around the world. So we’d certainly talk about it.” They would

The only thing I can imagine is that maybe you were never on Twitter for the past several years? Or, you've just never learned nothing about Dorsey for the past several years, either? You just have never had any reason whatsoever to pay any attention to what he does?

The myth of the benevolent billionaire proceeds apace I guess. I recommend Ashley Feinberg on Dorsey:

@Jonathanglick How is Jack Dorsey "not involved" in both Twitter & BlueSky?

He invested $1 billion in Twitter & he created/founded BlueSky. His name is all over every news article about BlueSky.

chargrille,
@chargrille@progressives.social avatar

@Jonathanglick If people are making this argument, I haven't seen it & I don't know what facts it could be based on.

chargrille,
@chargrille@progressives.social avatar

@Jonathanglick

Is Anil Dash claiming that Jack Dorsey does not own BlueSky?

chargrille,
@chargrille@progressives.social avatar

@Jonathanglick

Jay Graber was "hand selected" by Dorsey when it was still at Twitter, and she is a cryptocurrency developer.

That kind of claim would be really preposterous, as it's widely known that BlueSky has been Dorsey's baby ever since he launched it in 2019 as an offshoot of Twitter, with Twitter funding. So, pretending Dorsey isn't involved now would be pretty laughable.

chargrille,
@chargrille@progressives.social avatar

@Jonathanglick

Also, BlueSky is not a non-profit.

It is a for-profit organization, organized as a "public benefit" LLC.

@chargrille@progressives.social avatar

@bentomn @Jonathanglick

Thanks Ben. I suppose my point could be boiled down to: people could help themselves, and others, clear away a lot of needless busy work comparing social media product features by just remembering who Jack Dorsey is & knowing that he is utterly untrustworthy when the chips come down, as we all know they are always doing, continually.

@samhainnight

Ashley Feinberg has his number.

I think CNN is way off the mark with this Paul Begala interview. I don’t for one minute think Carlson was fired for disagreeing with management.

chargrille,
@chargrille@progressives.social avatar

@lavndrblue @Karoli I am curious about this too. @brooklynmarie posted a recent article about problems Don Lemon had with displaying misogynistic behavior towards co-workers. I suspect this played a roll in his firing today. And if the firing was about Lemon rightly pushing back against Vivek Ramaswamy's on-air lies about Black history? Whoo boy.

Daivd Sacks, who, with fellow South African Peter Thiel (orchestrator of bank run that tanked Silicon Valley Bank), wrote that rape sometimes includes "seductions that are later regretted," is holding a fundraiser for Ro Khanna.

https://progressives.social/@chargrille/110021817941434782

chargrille,
@chargrille@progressives.social avatar

Ro Khanna will be shown as a repulsive chameleon unless he rejects any fundraising from David Sacks.

Sacks gave $1 m to replace Tim Ryan with JD Vance. He is one of the many apartheid-grown, fasco-libertarian Silicon Valley tech billionaires who, after trumpeting the social virtues of letting other people suffer economic reversals without social nets (student loans ring a bell? pandemic?) changed their tune to call for govt-guaranteed rescue missions for SVB because it dented their pocketbooks.

chargrille,
@chargrille@progressives.social avatar

And the problem was their own creation! The VC world that now claims SVB is too big to fail, CAUSED the run that destroyed it, by withdrawing their funds. The gall of it all.

chargrille,
@chargrille@progressives.social avatar

Are Ro's left-wing Sanders supporters really going to stick with him, knowing the billionaires who are attaching Ro's puppet strings and watching them do it in real time?

chargrille,
@chargrille@progressives.social avatar

And Sacks is STILL trying to use his platform on right wing talk shows like Megyn Kelly's to spread panic & encourage depositors to abandon these already HUGE "regional" banks.

As Warren pointed out in 2018 when trying to stop the GOP deregulation, the banks we're talking about here are not tiny - they have ENORMOUS assets, up to $250 billion.

The main thing that threatens them is exactly the kind of run Sacks is encouraging.

Published in Newsweek this morning:

chargrille,
@chargrille@progressives.social avatar

Sacks, who wrote that women falsely claim rape after "seductions," is fundraising for "left-wing" Dem Ro Khanna.

Sacks gave $1 million to "Ohio Values PAC," created to replace Dem Tim Ryan with right wing extremist, insurrectionist & Big Lie perpetrator, JD Vance.

When asked if he supports abortion bans with no exceptions for rape or incest, Vance said "two wrongs don't make a right" & called rape & incest "inconvenient" for the girl.

Thiel gave $10 million to the same PAC to elect Vance.

chargrille,
@chargrille@progressives.social avatar

This Oct 18, 2022 article is important to read if you want to understand who David Sacks is and with whom Ro Khanna is allying himself by accepting money from him (i.e., fascists like Ron DeSantis, Peter Thiel/Palantir (look it up), Trump, JD Vance, Elon Musk, & pro-Putin/anti-Ukraine GOP in the US), all of whom position themselves as aggressively anti-progressive. Ro Khanna positions himself as progressive.

https://newrepublic.com/article/168125/david-sacks-elon-musk-peter-thiel

chargrille,
@chargrille@progressives.social avatar

Sacks' "record of campaign finance donations tells the story of a die-hard Republican" - $1m to Vance, $160K+ to DeSantis.

Sacks funded & led GOP lies vs. Dem DA Boudin. On recall day Sacks went on Megyn Kelly to call Democrats "useful idiots for the Chinese Communist Party" & spew racism: that fentanyl was China’s “payback” for the Opium Wars

He went on Tucker Carlson & spread standard GOP "Soros" antisemitism, & demanded the Chesa “playbook" be "replicated across the country" vs. Democrats.
