I have been programming since I was 12 (born in '73 #genx), currently enjoy coding in #Rust. I use Linux every day; I prefer open to closed. I try to live and let live when it comes to people's tech choices.

I work in tech but am learning how better to separate that from my passion for programming.

I used to podcast, I plan to again soon.

I practice #zazen, #qigong, and #taichi every day.

Good morning, lovely people! #yoga and walkies have been achieved and the caffeinating process has begun. How is it that today's to-do list is the same as yesterday? Mending, assemble a PDF pattern, perhaps even sauce for pizza later in the week.

Good morning and TZAG, friends.

I am starting #today with tea and reading by a cozy fire out on our patio.

I have an overdue eye exam later this morning. I am hoping to find some focus after to make more progress on my new $dayjob project.

I also feel overdue for a social outing. I plan to visit my favorite local tap room towards the end of my day.

@hirozed Heh, I didn't even realize what I did there, honestly.

An interesting thing happened on the way to groceries today that led to me picking up this book. Our organic market has several in this series.

Another driver followed us after he thought my frustrated pointing at a four way stop sign was my middle finger. He was threatening us with his car until I pulled over.

I reacted in self defense to confront him but with peace in my heart. We both wound up finding a bit of understanding and compassion.

I spent today mostly reading code for $dayjob, another repo I need to understand for my project. I thought I had developed some pretty tough mental calluses to the anti-patterns and misapplications of design patterns. The callouses, they did nothing. My equanimity helped me more.

Parts of my project could be simple enough. Other requirements will either have to be punted pending some intense discussion or could drastically expand my project's scope.

I started this book, Old Zen Master, a while ago, before the recent developments with my equanimity.

The stories resonate more deeply now, especially the light hearted humor. I think I will finishing reading it through then read it again as a daily reader. Each story is only a few pages long and self contained.

Good morning and TZAG, friends.

I am celebrating the end of another week with tea by the fire and a little more time reading.

A couple priority meetings have invaded my $dayjob agenda on No Meeting Friday. They are related to an on site gathering in downtown DC next week. Neither should be a very heavy lift.

Otherwise my day should be a pleasant one full of reading, researching, and thinking then kicking off the weekend.

And now the fire has burned down to coals. Time to get on with the rest of my day.

cmdln,
@cmdln@thecommandline.social avatar

The fire in question. Second morning I took a picture of it and forgot to attach it to my morning post.

Good morning and TZAG, friends.

I woke to bright sunshine #today but clouds have already rolled in. I am still trying to decide how I want to enjoy my extra day off. I would like to clear away at least one or two needful things I haven't gotten to this weekend. Otherwise I think I am leaning towards more relaxing and simply following however the day unfolds.

cmdln,
@cmdln@thecommandline.social avatar

That's one of the needfuls taken care of, catching up on the household ledger and budget. After a quick shower and shave, I will take care of the other, a quick errand, then back to following the day as it unfolds.

I maintained my equanimity pretty well #today. Not perfectly but well enough. Even found some helpful humor. Otherwise my day was full of $dayjob busy-ness.

No luck on a sun break but I did enjoy a scenic drive on the cross county toll road to get this week's CSA share. I enjoy the chance to open up my little sports coupe more than my usual route allows. The usual hot spot often takes longer to sit through than the rest of the return trip.

#today has been a good day to practice my growing equanimity.

I had a couple of opportunities (construction snarls, critical but well intended $dayjob feedback) to practice my awareness and alignment. I definitely felt better in the moment, like my responses were better chosen than in the past, and no lingering attachment to negative feelings after.

That construction this morning alone would have had me grumbling most of the day only one week ago.

Good morning and TZAG, friends.

#today started a little rough, my second pint last night was a double IPA. I found myself wanting a pale ale, specifically something old school with a more crisp, bitter finish. That beer was the closest on offer.

I still managed to get out for a very good run this morning and feel almost back to rights.

I am hoping for a quiet day to get some reading, thinking, and further technical design work done for my $dayjob project.

I had a fantastic time tonight at my usual haunt, Saints Row Brewing. Turns out combining that experience with my newfound deeper equanimity enriched my enjoyment considerably. I was uncertain that would be the case.

Out of idle curiosity, did anyone I know make it more than 20 minutes into Atlas (JLo scifi movie on Netflix)?

Apparently that’s ghetto maximum time I can look like this at my screen: 🤨

@evoterra I guess I have an unusually high tolerance for lazily written drek. Or didn't have anything else better to watch at the time.

I did more software archeology #today and was able to validate my findings in the code with my first peers, the other principal engineers. I am grateful for these peers, I have not had any at my level of responsibility in a few years. So far, this is a solid group of pros and I also enjoy their company. I look forward to seeing them all in person next week.

7:45a is the time when the road crew outside my house decided it was ok to start cutting the concrete.

@grueproof 8:00a when you decided it was acceptable to sabotage their equipment. Cut pneumatic lines, sugar in the gas tank, etc. No jury in the land would convict you.
