#today at uni: a workshop on PhD-by-publicaton, supervision, departmental coffee time, a seminar, departmental PGR in-person socials, ... oh and some research work, maybe?
I did download both the latest Linux Mint Cinnamon and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS; While at work, I will decide which distro to install. Even though I weighted Ubuntu lower in my list, I’m drawn to it! Tonight, I will be making bootable drives using balenaEtcher.
Hello fellow Fediverse travelers, I hope your day is going well. While on break I took a cicada pic, they are increasing daily. 🪲 🐛 When they're all out it will be an impressive sight.
The sun is out strong #today. I've already had a run by the creek. I even managed to improve my average pace by 15s/km. I am also proud that this is the first run in recent memory where I didn't drop to a walk even once.
I have a long day of conversations ahead, meetings and 1:1's for the $dayjob. My introvert battery is relatively charged. I will do my best to make it through without getting too ground down.
Workmen arrive to begin the process of bringing the exterior of the house up to snuff this morning.
I'm expecting the day to be noisy and filled with unexpected interruptions.
Chaos to restore order.
After too many years, the place is finally on the path of restoration. It's going to take some time and effort but it will be nice to get things in order in at least this one facet of my life.
I hope you find a bit of order in your chaos #today
It’s odd that people repeatedly make the same decision which leads to a similar conclusion: a problematic person has been rehired after being fired about a year and a half ago. They are starting the same old bullshit, about to get fired again. It’s time for this person to be blacklisted.
✔ Finalize and email out tomorrow's schedule for the barn
✔ Full self-care shower (inc hair, shaving, and foot scrub)
✔ Send end-of-term potluck sign-up email for the barn
Still to do:
🍴 Finish clearing to the dining table and get that set up
📦 Unpack and put away kitchen stuff
✈ Carefully plan a trip next month
🧶 Finish the hair for my Ukrainian amigurumi doll
📚 Start reading books at bedtime again, not scrolling insta reels
Flowers in the early morning sun. My iPhone says they are fortnight lilies or wood iris; fortnight lily seems like the better match. #bloomscrolling#today#garden
Good morning, lovely people! The grey sky is killing me! I was promised sun!!!!! Walkies and caffeine have been achieved. On the book: laundry, start on the matching skirt to the top I made yesterday, tidying up. The clutter always builds up over the weekend. #today#mondog#roughcollie#dogs
I was hoping #today might start with some sun but woke to more gray. If the forecast is accurate, we should get some sun midday and all day tomorrow.
I missed my window for a run this morning. I hurt my foot last night, banged it into Ziggy's crate in the dark, so not sure I wanted to run on it anyway. I will still exercise, my non-running regimen. I do better when I get more exercise in each week rather than let it slide too many days.
I'm skipping my early-morning walk today because I have an early-morning doctor's appointment instead. I'm meeting a new primary care physician since my last one quit the profession after I'd seen her only once. And the one before then quit the practice after I'd seen her for a couple of years.
Do you think it's me?
A lot of doctors in the US are quitting, partly from burnout after covid, but mostly, I think, because of the way they are hamstrung by the insurance companies dictating how they are allowed to do their jobs: what treatments patients are allowed to have, what medications, etc. It must be incredibly frustrating.
Anyway, I'll be heading out soon, then come back to a nice day and more writing.
Well, here it is again, as unwanted as ever - Monday. It wasn't a bad weekend, even though it rained each day at least a little bit, making it 16 out of 20 weekends so far this year. I did manage to squeeze in a mowing of the lawn to at least show someone lives here. We played #Seafall on Sunday, getting in a whole "game", which was fun. It makes 8 games out of probably 20 for this campaign legacy game. #boardgames
Not much planned for #today,. My wife drove herself in this morning, freeing up 90 minutes or so of my day. I need to make some phone calls. Get someone to give us a price on trimming the trees in the backyard. I should call the doctor's office to talk about my problematic knees. They aren't terrible but they aren't right either. Tonight watch the first Mad Max with @adrienne. The upcoming movie looks amazing and I think it would be fun to rewatch the entire series. #movies#films@movies
