Another important fact about me is that I collect ISA cards. I still don't believe in magic- just concepts I don't understand yet.

I'm so happy F-Zero is getting love.

I'm not sure I've heard a single bad thing about F-Zero 99. It almost makes me want to buy a Switch/get a online subscription.

But, I'll stick to watching. I can play the SNES version at any time:

I did it. Phase 2/4 of my little project complete. Not ready to announce yet, but it feels nice to get it working.

@whitequark I love the implication that "why is it bad" is self-explanatory from looking at it :D.

Dial up standards seem infinitely more f***ed up than the contemporaneous Ethernet standards at the time.

How do/did ppl grok them? Hell, how do/did ppl grok POTS. Even POTS seems utterly intractable to me.

TIL (ty @whitequark) that if you press "y" on any Github repository page, you'll convert it to a permanent link based on the current commit hash ._.

I needed this functionality like 5 years ago... :o

Rust's "Cargo" has a feature named "Features" and a feature named "Examples" and there is a feature where an Example can use a Feature and this is incredibly, incredibly hard to google for. So far I've got as far as finding examples of Features, but not as far as finding examples of Features of Examples.

cr1901,
@cr1901@mastodon.social avatar

@onelson @mcc cargo's features are the Rust equivalent of "cc -DMY_EXTRA_FUNCTIONALITY".

Cargo also provides a built-in mechanism to run code examples for your library (called, "examples" :P).

These can be combined, so that a code example requires a cargo feature to be enabled if you want to compile/run that example.

I think I found a gentle explanation to NFTs and why they're silly. How's this?

"ou know how copying computer files is cheap? I.e. "You wouldn't Download A Car", "Don't Copy That Floppy", etc. NFTs are meant to be a way to enforce "I own this pattern of bytes, you can't copy it, otherwise there will be consequences".

There are no consequences in practice, b/c most ppl don't take NFTs seriously. They inherently take a lot of energy to compute ownership, and are VERY bad environmentally.

Ugh I hate this error, especially the "introduces a 'static lifetime requirement" part. But Idk how to make it better.

Maybe "in order for TableDisplayInfo<'static> to implement Borrow<TableDisplayInfo<'a>>, 'a must live as long as 'static".

What do you think, @ekuber?

Thinking about switch debouncing, as one does. Reminded of this article that @brouhaha shared with me once.

The COSMAC ELF kit uses the "Dual Inverter Latch" version. IBM mainframes in the 60s used the "SR Latch" version.

Nowadays you'd use a microcontroller or FPGA timer :P. Was 555 ever used for debouncing?

#lazyweb I need a used-working NVMe SSD (2280). Anyone have an one they'd be willing to part with for the cost of shipping (plus a convenience fee)? 1TB preferred, but I'm fine with any size.

I'm looking to do all this under $15.

It's fine if it's used because I want to test if my 2017 desktop supports NVMe (and the answer seems to be... possibly... not even Acer seems to be sure).
