free idea: m4 max apple tv with aaa games

danblondell,

@exchgr
This is so close to what the Xbox Series S is

danblondell,
@danblondell@masto.nyc avatar

@exchgr That thing, god bless it, looks like a dollar store Oculus

danblondell,
@danblondell@masto.nyc avatar

@exchgr
Why did they do this for a device that needs to fit near a TV.

Also, I realized saying Oculus in the context of gaming is ambiguous: I mean the downtown transit station

danblondell,
@danblondell@masto.nyc avatar

@exchgr
I could almost forgive it if it wasn’t so… arbitrary. I keep expecting to see it in a store one day and have it click, just like one day I expect to like olives.

@exchgr
It’s clearly superior to Xbox in pretty much every way except how it looks and battery life of the controller.

Though something about the PS aesthetic feels overly serious to me. When I had a PS3, powering it up always felt like putting on a suit to sit at a cafe.

watching x-files and they “as you know bob”’d origami. like:

a: look at that, it’s beautiful.
b: it’s called origami.
a: yeah, japanese paper folding

was origami just largely unknown in the west in the early 90s? i can’t remember a time when i didn’t know what it was

@mrcompletely @exchgr
There must have been a regular worry that viewers would be thrown off by something “strange” that has nothing at all to do with the plot.

danblondell,
@danblondell@masto.nyc avatar

@exchgr @mrcompletely
I’m thinking something like they don’t explain the origami and a viewer thinks “so this alien leaves behind folded paper birds”

Don’t forget the sexual tension. That dynamo could power Times Square.

Here's my fedi advice

Unfollow any and all of the super booster accounts. Build your feed organically.

I'm not sure why exactly, but it worked well for me. For one thing the "look at me senpai" energy around some of their followers is very Twitter style parasocial. And they're just subbing for an algo.

If you rely on them for most of your TL, do this first: follow anyone interesting that they boost for a week, then unfollow. It's easy.

If you don't want to, ok. Don't bother arguing with me

This approaches a broader point that I think is right: this protocol is at its best when it isn’t just Linux flavored twitter

wait has anyone tried installing asahi linux on iPad pro

Ok now bootcamp on iPad should absolutely be a thing. Apple could do the laziest possible version and let Linux devs worry about drivers and such.

I love that the only place I see scummy web ads is an Apple product that I pay a subscription for

danblondell,
@danblondell@masto.nyc avatar

@exchgr
That this is a sensible reading flow for a paid Apple subscription is real no good

the most depraved of all UI gestures is the long press that only responds when you let go.

  • can’t tell when it’s been long enough
  • wastes time if it hasn’t
  • what if you simply missed the target
  • what if the ui element next to or behind the target also responds to long press, and takes forever to complete its action

specific example: the “do not disturb” button on the lock screen, which is too easy to miss and bring up lock screen customization instead

do not disturb: two successful long presses, and one miss, which brings up lock screen customization

@exchgr We need “Force Touch" back

danblondell,
@danblondell@masto.nyc avatar

@exchgr It was certainly extra hardware and, based on how it rattled by the end of my iPhone 6S Plus's life, probably broke pretty often

exchgr, to random
@exchgr@mastodon.world avatar

now all we need is iCloud sync for games, saves, etc. (i’ll be damned if i’m manually typing a webdav password into retroarch using the apple tv remote) https://mastodon.social/@kottke/112457031455385827

danblondell,
@danblondell@masto.nyc avatar

@exchgr
Do you use the iPhone remote thing that lets you copy passwords directly on to the Apple TV?

danblondell,
@danblondell@masto.nyc avatar

@exchgr
I hate that that is even possible.
