Oooh! It's a public opening day at the Ashton Court Minature Railway!

I have never been before. I think that's where I am going to cycle today.

The problem with the Tory slogan "stop the boats” is that it sounds very similar to "stop the votes”.

I'm not saying their supporters are hard of hearing…

Doritos Extra Flamin Hot are actually quite hot.

danieldurrans,
@danieldurrans@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@yesterzine not seen the Max ones yet. Emma found bags of the Doritos and Wotsits in Spar. What I need is something in between the Flamin Hot and the Extra Flamin Hot.

Well that was fun. One of my sticks of Corsair Vengeance DDR4 just nuked itself on stream.

Good job I speak BIOS beep. Now limping along on a single stick.

What DDR4 are the non-cool kids buying these days?

(EDIT: I'm running an AMD Ryzen 7 3800X on a Prime X570-P for reference)

(Because the cool kids mostly prefer shiny to good)

@garius I've always been a fan of Crucial ram.

I tried Corsair Vengence in my work laptop and it just didn't work. Wouldn't boot. Switched to Crucial and it was fine.

After all that, my plan to stop my bike lock from rattling by using heat shrink tubing didn't work.

I now have 6.95cm of 14mm heat shrink tubing to use up.

It might be a bit silly to stand in the middle of a dual carriageway to take a photo, but in this instance I am on The Road To Nowhere just south of Yate.

my understanding is that american's do not empty 1-2 kilogrammes of dishwasher salt into a special salt compartment of their dishwashers? as a european i take pride in emptying a 1-2 kilogramme box of dishwasher salt into a special salt compartment of my dishwasher to contribute to the effective washing of my dishes

danieldurrans,
@danieldurrans@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@stevelord @hazel Surely an anti caking agent is what you need when washing dishes. You don't want a pro-caking agent else you might end up with a victoria sponge.

Is anyone from Octopus Energy on Mastodon?

I have questions as to why the octopus I received recently has dilated pupils and can't sit straight…

On the left is the octopus that arrived a few years ago. On the right is the one from last week.

danieldurrans,
@danieldurrans@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@jtonline Friday's octopus was because I was within the first 8000 people to sign up for Octopus Go.

Their marketing department sent a box containing:

  • A small plush octopus
  • Some QR codes
  • 6200 octopoints I can trade in for a t-shirt
  • A scratch off explorer map
  • A rubber band
  • A sticker

I can only conclude that the Octopus has been hanging around the marketing department too much, and that the marketing department have been partaking in some very interesting substances.

Does anyone else like to make toast, butter the toast, and then put the toast back in the toaster?

If you haven’t, try it - toasted butter is yum++.

danieldurrans,
@danieldurrans@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@cehwitham The removable drip tray catches it all. We got a fancy Dualit toaster which is near indestructible.

The whole point of the "bad apple" analogy is that you don't just have one. One spoils the rest. That's the point. I don't quite understand why so many people now actively say "he was just one bad apple".

danieldurrans,
@danieldurrans@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@slowe We appear to be very good at cherry picking phrases out of quotations. The other memorable one obviously being “The customer is always right”.

I wonder if there are other examples.
