Good interview with Greg Jackson CEO of Octopus Energy.

"I think the energy transition used to sound like quite a complicated process. The reality is that it just boils down to electrification. We need to electrify everything we can and then be generating as much electricity as we can from renewable resources.

Now, underneath that, there may be a whole lot of policy priorities. But electrification has got to be the one word"

My electricity bill for last month: Import costs ~£50, export credits ~£90. Overall credit for April: £40 (including standing charges and running an electric car).
This is thanks to Solar PV, a House Battery and a flexible tariff from (Intelligent Go) - all orchestrated with
Capital cost was high but well worth it 👍

Screenshot of my electricity bill showing an import of 410kWh offpeak, costing around £30; and only 10.8kWh at peak rate, costing around £2.80. Standing charges for the month are £17.50.
Screenshot of a graph from my electricity bill showing a profile of a typical day's usage; there is almost no grid consumption during the peak rate period.

A random artwork from my gallery:

"Duicat di Urbino" — 2015

Long Venus is long! I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that if Titian were alive today, he would have painted it just like this.

New : This was our worst Yet

There was a powerup this morning and, as a result of various things we completely fluffed it.

Last year, there was a powerup that I forgot about and we still managed to pull more from grid than today.

So, I thought it was worth a small post

Is anyone from Octopus Energy on Mastodon?

I have questions as to why the octopus I received recently has dilated pupils and can't sit straight…

On the left is the octopus that arrived a few years ago. On the right is the one from last week.

Thanks @nytimes for including my perspective in this piece on keeping an octopus as a pet. Octopuses are wild animals who belong in the ocean, and anyway, what message does it send to a child when a family orders an octopus online and she arrives in a cardboard box as shoes or a computer would arrive? https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/11/us/tiktok-octopus-pet-oklahoma.html?ugrp=m&unlocked_article_code=1.jk0.DQgs.-hFwE9n7Cvs8&smid=url-share

Did a gas/electric fixed tarrif with in February but I read an article today from which says check your tarrif as the price cap may not go as low as predicted.

So I checked mine and the March fixed tariff for existing customers is now £70 per year cheaper (based on my consumption) than the February fixed. No exit fees so got it swapped over!

This is the article I read this morning:
https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/are-there-any-cheap-fixed-energy-deals-currently-worth-it/

Hope that helps someone!

World's first octopus farm proposals alarm

A plan to build the world's first farm has raised deep concerns among scientists over the welfare of the famously intelligent creatures.

The farm in Spain's would raise about a million octopuses annually for food, according to confidential documents seen by the .

California State Assembly: Vote YES on the California Oppose Cruelty to Octopuses Act (OCTO). 🐙

The increasing demand for meat is promoting the cruel breeding of the species. Millions of these highly intelligent animals are crammed into tiny aquariums until they die miserably from stress or are killed by icy water.

But where there’s public pressure, there’s always hope: two states have already banned octopus farming, and now could follow.

The great 2024 has turned up this. It’s a washable colouring in map thingy. I’m very tempted to turn it into a small quilt. Maybe with flags around the outside as a border? Could maybe colour in the critters with embroidery? 🤔
