On pulling some friends from the fiery wreckage of - they would miss the "group DM" feature, and might be my best bet to scratch that particular itch.

And Discord is out - the "boost your server" and "buy these stickers" ads are out of control. Even though hosting is provided...

Other options include Matrix (of which I am fairly ignorant) and Mattermost (not fediverse, but open source. self hosting required of course.)

so here's my dumb question. I have a tiny vanilla Mastodon instance (which is on a laptop that currently won't boot, as of today)... ANYWAY.. how feasible to bring that back running calckey

can the (small number of) mastodon accounts be migrated?

has anyone done this yet?

by "migrated" here I don't mean the traditional "move-servers from A-to-b" sense (unless that's my only option)

I mean converted-in-place. With post history etc. If possible.. @atomicpoet - is this possible 😬

Hello CalcKey!

I'm on a couple Mastodon instances but am interested in branching out to see what the rest of the Fediverse looks like! I was on birdsite for several years before that, during the dark times.

I obviously enjoy cheese, 3D animations (mostly in Blender), coding (mostly in Python), guitar solos (not mine), some gaming, photography (some mine). And jokes, obviously.

Especially love to see stuff people made. Memes, widgets, add-ons, websites, games, animations, art, etc.

As for politics? I'm left. Atheist. Vegetarian, living amongst vegans. Oh.. I've been known to throw cheese from time-to-time at deserving disgusting public figures who so often undermine our institutions, shamelessly flout our laws & norms, demonize marginalized communities, push religious agendas. And the pundits / opportunists who profit from pushing lies and hateful propaganda. And the occasional narco-billionaire arsonist. As one does.
