daq,

For me it’s the paid multiplayer that ruins it.

daq,

Most non-bots are from United States and know nothing about eastern narrative other than what russian and Chinese bots are feeding them.

daq,

Symbian was a fantastic OS, but it never competed with Android in any meaningful way. Nokia was already circling the drain when Microsoft bought them and first Windows phones (Lumias) were fucking awesome. And then fucking moron Nadella killed Windows Phone.

daq,

What’s so special about 0 - 100? 40° of civilized units sucks, but is still perfectly survivable and is becoming more and more common in some parts of the world. That’s 104° of fucked up units.

Negatives up to -30° are also common around the world and I frequently went out in shorts and t-shirt in -10° for a short time to grab mail or take out trash.

The only sort of reasonable justification for F units I’ve ever heard was that there’s less of a change between whole degrees, but decimals are not exactly hard to figure out imnho.

KDE Plasma 6.0, and KDE Gear 24.02 released (kde.org)

Today the KDE Community is announcing a new najor release of Plasma 6.0, and Gear 24.02. KDE Plasma is a modern, feature-rich desktop environment for Linux-based operating systems. Known for its sleek design, customizable interface, and extensive set of applications, it is also open source, devoid of ads, and makes protecting...

daq,

Web apps are awesome on desktop especially when common clients like Skype and Slack are absolute fucking shit with zero dev time spent on them because Electron is a lazy alternative despite being shit software that needs to fucking die.

Thankfully --no-remote parameter still sort of works to make Firefox semi usable as a web app.

daq,

I would not be surprised. I’ve done it many times including complicated setups with different databases as replica slaves.

I’m now seeing a lot of new projects that don’t care much about DB backend since the library they use to wrap sql calls obscures all that stuff anyway, but I promise you mysql to Maria is a much more common and straightforward transition than to postgresql.

daq,

Huh? Postgresql is not mysql compatible. Mariadb is very popular in a ton of businesses around the world as a not stupidly expensive sql database with great support.

daq,

Lots of sellers will prefer cash or regular loans so your application is very likely to be last in line. Plus the applications are much, much more complicated and mortgage applications are already a bitch. But then it’s usually a once in a lifetime experience and may be the only option for a lot of people do this is more of a heads up than an attempt to discourage anyone from applying.

daq,

Religion has never been about god. Religion is about control and unlike more intelligent mechanisms we created to assign positions of power, religion (by design) assigns power to the worst kind of scum.

So proof of non existence of god is not required to wonder why species calling itself intelligent still believes in vile shit that historically and factually demonstrated itself to cause nothing but grief, suffering and incessant delays to progress.

daq,

The power supplies feeding these are typically .5A at 5v so they can’t draw more than ~2.5w. Is that really enough to generate sufficient heat to start a fire? Maybe if they are wrapped around something incredibly flammable?

daq,

Who exactly is he going to lose to? Not like any other candidate is opposed to war with Palestine.

How to troubleshoot connecting to server?

When I try to login to my Lemmy instance, I type my username/password, then 2fa code prompt shows up and I enter it, and then I just get endless spinning wheel. It used to work at one point, but I’m not sure what changed. I updated both, client and server multiple times since it stopped working. I’ve also reset Connect data...

daq,

I really don’t understand why people love Proton so much. It’s really expensive, requires a non standard client and in the end you’re still using it to communicate via one of the least secure protocols ever with vast majority of people not using Proton.

daq,

Don’t let Slack launch at startup. As long as it launches after pipewire - everything works. Your can also restart it to fix sharing issue, but that can be a birch if you already started a call.

daq,

True unpopular opinion over here.

headphones are not the same.

Correct. They are a way better option to enjoy music. Unless you’re listening to it live, imnho there’s no better way to enjoy music than a nice set of headphones. They are perfectly calibrated to produce sound at exactly the right location into your ears. Unless you’re comparing them to hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on speakers and sound engineers, no speakers you can buy for under that even come close. That $250 garbage you’re annoying your neighbors with certainly does not.

daq,

Zoom app never worked well on Linux and in browser experience was absolute shit.

Sometimes it just wouldn’t start without any error message. 10 minutes before meeting. Fuck zoom.

Teams works even in Firefox on Linux, but desktop client is very solid as well if you’re into that.
