Glancing over the website, I thought it's an immutable OS, like Fedora Silverblue. I could imagine that it might be cool to use with Ansible and stuff. But for an average user? I can't really see the advantages in respect to the work you have to put in.

Was really disheartened so see Hüllenberg going backwards after bad luck with his pitstop. And Norris... Man, I really feel sorry for him.

I started out on SuSE back in 94 and spent a while checking out rpm-based distros like Mandrake, RedHat, etc. Even stuff like m68k Linux, Slackware and the BSDs. Debian at that time was a pain to use. Used Gentoo for a while until I switched to Mac. After that I used Ubuntu, Mint, Antergos, Manjaro, Arch and Fedora.

And then I started noticing a pattern that I would always get frustrated with whatever I was trying out and go back to Fedora. So now it's been around five years I've stuck with Fedora for my gaming machine and my desktop.

I've been using ecosia for a while - and what do I see there? IP logging AND third-party-trackers?

Have also been waffling between brave search and duckduckgo. I'm beginning to prefer the ai summary and general presentation of brave search.

I was in a team one where everyone could give or receive criticism, and it was always friendly and (often) constructive - hardly ever bad feelings. Learned a lot from them, really miss that team 😒

Could you tell us what keyboards those are? I can't quite figure them out.

Finding supported fingerprint devices that work on Linux

So I'm shopping for a fingerprint reader to use on Linux desktop and found this list of fprint supported devices. The problem is that USB ID is not exactly the kind of information they advertise in marketplaces or product information pages, so I can never know whether the product I'm looking at is going to be detected at all....

In my experience fprint is a bit hit and miss. As an alternative, you can get a webcam with an IR cam (Windows Hello) and use it with Howdy.

That was my path, too, starting out at kuro5hin during to dotcom days. Have a similar feeling like back when going from digg to reddit. At reddit, they've been doing sketchy stuff for a while. Although it's been my go-to place for doomscrolling, answers to all sorts of questions or just dank memes, I just feel burnt out and like it's time to move on.

The games that stuck with me are (in no special order) Paradise Killer, Sable, Disco Elysium, Gris and of course What remains of Edith Finch.

Well, all the open-source Reddit clients are pretty drastically affected by Reddit's shenanigans.

To be fair, the technology is really fascinating. Virtual objects throwing shadows on the real environment or generating a virtual face in realtime is stunning. But on a practical note, does this keep your face from getting sweaty? Can you wear glasses comfortably? Can you change light seals when they get dirty?

Nevertheless this is in effect just a glorified monitor, but will certainly cost several times more. So I really can't imagine compelling use cases. Especially since you can only use it with other apple devices.

At first, I wanted to reply "Gaming? On a Mac? Get out of here!". But I just saw that over 38k games are available for MacOS in Steam - well, TIL!

In lemmy it's similar but the other way around. This magazine can be seen in lemmy as https://lemmy.ml/c/RedditMigration@kbin.social

Please don’t tell me about other keyboards! I got a Moonlander, am really happy with it and consider it my endgame board. Not like all the other endgame boards, I swear!

Got NMS right at launch and was so underwhelmed by actual experience compared to what was promised. Each new version reminded me of its existence, and once in a while I would fire it up to see what the new versions had to offer. So much procedural generation making everything generic - there wasn't anything special about anything. It was the first game where I learned the term "inventory management". I could craft increasingly complex stuff, but why? To what purpose? The story was so weak I never felt compelled to continue. It sounds like the new updates are concentrating on some story based gameplay. We'll see.

Windows is just a vehicle for developers to create services on Azure and to push consumers to O365. We have to endure enough advertising in our life already - an OS should be a tool to get work done and not another vector to push ads to the consumer. I put Fedora on our daughter's laptop and it's refreshingly boring.
