SubmarineDoor,

You should be able to connect to Lemmy communities (Lemmy terminology for subreddits) from kbin by linking in this way:

https://kbin.social/m/{community_name}@{lemmy_instance}

So for example the lemmyworld community from https://lemmy.world has a native link of:
https://lemmy.world/c/lemmyworld
But you can access a kbin.social federated view of it using:
https://kbin.social/m/lemmyworld@lemmyworld

Likewise https://beehaw.org/c/technology would become https://kbin.social/m/technology@beehaw.org.
You can browse through a big list of lemmy communities here:
https://browse.feddit.de/

I'm not sure how to view kbin magazines from lemmy though.

oxydot,

Thank you so much! This really helps.

Zazu,

I think it works the same way in the other direction. So in order to view kbinMeta@kbin.social from lemmy.world you would navigate to https://lemmy.world/c/kbinMeta@kbin.social

sgtlighttree,

Thanks for this mate, though the "incomplete" thing needs to be addressed at some point

Most of the communities I find show as empty with a "incomplete" message or even just a "404 Not found"

you need to type in @lemmy.world instead of @lemmyworld

Kbin_space_program,

This is fantastic. I'm commenting so I can find this later.

1019throw,

Commenting to save. Still hoping for some added functionality to the web and app support. For instance, I miss using Boost where I could quickly jump to top level comment trees.

gtk, is there a way to save comments on here? or posts?

Currently the only way I have found to "save" a Kbin comment or post is to copy it to an external app or file:

At the bottom of the post or comment, select More, then select Copy URL, then in your note app of choice paste that copied URL.

Hopefully there will be a Save or Bookmark option within Kbin eventually.

Spada,

This is awesome. I’m sharing it to mastodon for visibility.

Captain_Shoe,

But you can access a kbin.social federated view of it using:
https://kbin.social/m/lemmyworld@lemmyworld

That should be https://kbin.social/m/lemmyworld@lemmy.world (missing a period there)

Ilovemechanicalkeyboards,

Save

zzzthelastuser,

This was an incredibly useful summary how shit just works here. Wish I had found it sooner or it was pinned somewhere more visible. Especially the examples. Thanks 🙏

In lemmy it's similar but the other way around. This magazine can be seen in lemmy as https://lemmy.ml/c/RedditMigration@kbin.social

Spada,

Do you know the URL syntax to do the same from mastodon? Lemmy uses /c/ for community and Kbin /m/ for magazine, but I have no idea how to do similarly from a mastodon instance.

When I began exploring the I must have made 5 accounts across various instances, but I really want to keep it all on one account (somehow).

Yes, I too wish there was a save feature!

    Go here: https://kbin.social/magazines?q=Lemmy

In the search icon, look down the page and you can click magazines following that, search anything. Lemmy and beehaw and others will show up

Edited for clarification and correcting links

    DarkThoughts,

The hyperlink goes to this submission instead of https://kbin.social/magazines?q=Lemmy.
The description is also not particularly helpful.

    SoupOfTheDay,

Are magazines kbin’s version of subreddits? If I subscribe? Do I need to do anything special?

    Shortcake,
    Shortcake avatar

Yes they are. If you go to a page and click subscribe it will be in your subscribed feed. You can then find it in your list of subscriptions as well. I believe desktop has that at the top now. Otherwise it's in your profile

Currently Kbin can't really connect to Lemmy, and other instances because of server issues, and Cloudflair, which is used to prevent DDoS attacks. So it doesn't seem like you can use any Kbin communities on Lemmy right now.

But some Lemmy communities do work in Kbin, like searching mildlyinfuriating@lemmy.world will get you to the Lemmy community

Right! Federation is broken right now while the dev works as fast as possible on upgrading the infrastructure to handle the drastic increase in users.

To add to what @atocci said, Kbin is literally an infant compared to Lemmy. It’s been public around a month. I think a lot of people jumped in thinking it was more established than what it was and are underestimating what it can do once it come back up fully.

The dev who made Kbin probably had no idea this would ever happen, so just give it time to get the kinks worked out. In the meantime, standby to standby.

They've done a good job, though, I'm impressed. It seems more polished and accessible and powerful despite being younger. And much more likely to take off as a reddit migration destination.

This is all very useful information for someone trying to find his way around the fediverse on his first day! Replying so that I can find it later.

If you go to the list of magazines on this site, the second half of the pages seem to be where all the other sites magazines are. After around page 40 or 45, that's where I found them.
