Did you know you can use the Outlook app for Android with DAVx5 synced calendars? You can! - that's something we didn't know for ourselves actually - and people asked us about this for a lot of times :D

We've written a guide so that everyone can use it - if they prefer that app (although Outlook is not open source of course):

Thanks to the people recommending @davx5app for my Android CalDAV sync woes. It works perfectly. Now I just need to find a way.to disable (and not just hide) the Google calendar in the calendar app 🤔

@dancingtreefrog @rene it should, since I read that you can use radicale on the FBX which takes care of the CalDAV and CardDAV connection for your Contacts and Calendars.

DAVx⁵ 4.3.16 has been released!

Highlights:

  • New (very simple) Widget to trigger a sync for all collections from home screen, without opening the app

  • More sensitive handling of your password

  • Rewrite to Compose is finished which results in a fast responding and more streamlined feeling across the whole app.

  • Improved interaction with system

@davx5app My calendar events don't show attachments. I read the manual1, but I'm not entirely sure I understand correctly. Is it impossible to view attachments to events?

@whynothugo Hi Hugo, nice to read you :) yes that is unfortunately true. Attachment sync is not supported yet (it is a complicated thing...). This will however probably be our next bigger feature thing after Push.

We've released ICSx5 2.2!

It has been completely rewritten to Compose, which took quite some time alone. We fixed various bugs and improved on a lot of areas in general under the surface! We've also added a few new options to your syncing pleasure :D

@dsoft @watomatic Speaking from our own history: we had to change our name from DAVdroid to DAVx5: You've almost zero chance. The first thing you would need is a lawyer and send them the official response and your sights. But at the end you will always be the weaker party (=less money). They will argue that you're free riding, using Whatsapp to make your own "business" ("your app wouldn't exist if there was no Whatsapp"). IMO u can only survive by removing any WA reference from text and images..

Anyone using Google Login with davx5-ose (F-Droid/Github)?

Google changes their policy in June 2024 and will probably disable the API key when we don't mark it as "wait for abuse" (marking is cumbersome, and they may disable the key nevertheless).

We are happy to announce that DAVx5 4.3.15 is now available (also on @fdroidorg).

  • Great parts have been rewritten to Compose and (will be finalized in 4.3.16)
  • We've changed how we use various sync types, resulting in much less used system sync quota. This means a much more reliable scheduled background sync. Hope you enjoy the new version! 😀

@DanielPielmeier @fdroidorg We had to remove that option since it was bound to a permission which Google decided we are not eligible to use anymore and it blocked releasing new versions. We will release a small widget that could help to keep the app in foreground in the next version. Hopefully it helps.

@joel Well for some users it seems to be useful to locally add a reminder of an event in a shared (read-only) calendar. I guess this is why some calendar apps allow it, and it seems to be used by users, otherwise we wouldn't have got error reports and this discussion wouldn't exist

@joel I have also updated the original posting in the Github discussion to clarify that this is not about whether we want to allow changes in read-only calendars, but how to deal with the changes that calendar apps perform (regardless of whether we want it or not) in read-only calendars

@tina Some calendar apps allow for instance to add a reminder (which changes the local event), whether we want it or not. The question is how DAVx⁵ shall deal with it.

I successfully replaced GTasks with Tasks.org app, GKeep with NextCloud Notes but still looking for a good calendar app.

It would greatly improve the open *DAV ecosystem in general. And it would make it possible to sync not just Tasks but
