OK this has got to be one of the weirdest images on Amazon. It's an image for Croc toes. You get a rubber toe for $12 and put it on your Crocs, so it looks like your toe is sticking out. Just wait until that poor kid opens the box and sees it's full of toes (or maybe just one toe in a lot of wrapping?). In my head, this whole thing is a scene from a horror movie.

@psychicparrot42 reminds me of the time @KateMinervaHarris ordered a kilo of mealworm for the birds and then forgot about it. Found an unopened Amazon box a few weeks later and excitedly ripped it open. 😂

I don't think she found it as funny as the rest of us 🤷‍♂️

I thought I was being really smart by using sockets on weapons to position melee attacks so that you can just trigger overlaps via anim notifies a little before potential impact, and if you make the overlap boxes big enough you get a nice directional element to attacks for cheap (good for making particles fly and directional knockback)

Reader, this does not work well under varying frame rate conditions. After this I'm definitely going to test the game with t.MaxFPS=20 more often 🤦‍♂️

@sinbad love that the head just drops and remains lit while everything else gets projected out. That's a lovely touch!

Good god don't ever try booking flights with traveljunction. If you book on their site it eats all your CC details etc then you get sent to a webpage with this at the top, so you think "fine, I'm done". Then a few minutes later some guy rings from an Indian call centre and tells you that this confirmation is not in fact a confirmation after all.

dev_ric,
@dev_ric@fosstodon.org avatar

@llamasoft_ox let me guess. You hadn't actually booked anything yet, and he wanted to upsell you a "better" flight?

I used to work at Icelolly. The business model was basically that the holidays shown on site were scraped from other sites and sold at a loss. When a customer buys one, you have to convince them to pay more for something else, and then book it with the real agent for less - that's where the profit was. Otherwise you book what they originally ordered and make a loss.

Awful setup.

@dev_ric@fosstodon.org avatar

@llamasoft_ox does sound a bit odd. Their domain was registered in 2013 though, and the company referenced in their footer was incorporated 2014 + has had the same director ever since, so it probably is a legitimate set-up, just poorly made. Although I can't confirm from the domains whois record that the two actually belong together.

As it happens, their footer also has a Sagepay logo which is the old name for Elavon, who we happen to be partnered with. Did the payment page reference Elavon?

dev_ric,
@dev_ric@fosstodon.org avatar

@llamasoft_ox I might be able to get somebody from there to confirm if they're legit if you're worried. Ecommerce is actually pretty decently regulated these days.

dev_ric,
@dev_ric@fosstodon.org avatar

@llamasoft_ox haha, fair enough. As long as the payment to them doesn't actually still leave the bank!

dev_ric,
@dev_ric@fosstodon.org avatar

@gilesgoat @llamasoft_ox Elavon, formerly Opayo, formerly Sagepay, is a payment gateway. Basically the company that sits between the merchant and customer bank accounts. When you put your card details into a form with one of those logos on it, you're sending those details to Elavon to process and liaise between the banks.

So if they're using a Sagepay logo then they either have an Elavon account, or they're faking it. As an Elavon partner our account manager might be able to tell me either way.

dev_ric,
@dev_ric@fosstodon.org avatar

@gilesgoat @llamasoft_ox and if it did turn out they were faking it, Elavon would for sure escalate and take legal action.

It probably isn't dodgy though. There's just a lot of poorly made ecomm sites out there 🤷‍♂️. Especially 2013 era when PCI-DSS existed but wasn't very good, and actually securely taking card payments was a bit hit and miss.

Random game thought: I’ve been thinking about a game controller with three joysticks, but I can’t come up with a good enough reason to have the extra one. Two joysticks seems to cover everything, right? Have we reached peak game controller? What could we map to a third stick? The closest to a good reason I could think of would be radial menus, but you can easily do those with a modifier and one of the other sticks right?

I wish would sort their keyboard out. The text correction is shockingly bad, especially when swiping to type. It’s to the point where I have to proofread everything I type.

Perfect example - it just corrected “proodread” to “progress” WTF??

I feel like had this solved like many years ago.

dev_ric,
@dev_ric@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev Android isn't much better to be honest. Particularly the Samsung keyboard, which I'm convinced has swapped out its actual dictionary for some kind of terribly context-unaware AI which just spits out whatever damned words it feels like and straight-up doesn't believe me that what I'm typing actually is a legit, correctly spelled word.

dev_ric,
@dev_ric@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev it's One UI these days, which I always find confusing as my previous phone was a OnePlus but it's UI was called OxygenOS.

Who's in charge of naming these things? 😂

Samsung is horribly bloaty with its overlays, and frustratingly they have affiliation with Microsoft which means force-installing their crud too, which you can't even disable. And their newest/next phones have subscription models for AI stuff. They've really gone downhill of late.

My search engine skills are failing me tonight. Does anybody know of a tool that will convert an HTML document into markdown? Linux obviously and CLI would be nice. I want to use it for a script.

dev_ric,
@dev_ric@fosstodon.org avatar

@mike it sounds like your source HTML contains the scripts to pull the content in, rather than the content itself.

Open the page in Firefox/Chrome, hit F12 to open the devtools window, and then the inspector tab. You should be able to right-click the HTML tag there and copy it, then just paste to a new file.

This'll give you the DOM rather than the original HTML, so it'll have the loaded content in there for parsing.

My wife and I recently bought an "Emma Mattress". It one of those fancy pants memory foam mattresses. It hasn't been delivered yet, but I'm very excited about it. I think that officially makes me old, right?

dev_ric,
@dev_ric@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev we don't have a memory foam mattress (although we do have a VERY thick firm foam mattress, so I guess almost the same thing), but I did recently buy a memory foam pillow and rather like it.

Our duvet is 100% wool and our old pillows were too. We paid an absolute fortune for proper natural bedding, made entirely of cotton and wool, and I felt like I was stepping down to a plastic pillow again but honestly, it feels like it's fixing my nighttime posture in so many ways.

@ahchay @kiwired @gilesgoat @llamasoft_ox that's just... what? 🤨

This doesn't sound like a concept that would work. How is it the most expensive cab? 😂

@llamasoft_ox @gilesgoat I'll definitely take you up on that one day!

When can we expect a Llamasoft wool & biscuits table to hit Steam? 😏
