Hey @Vivaldi, what's the chances I could get a "Watch Tab" feature added? Have a configurable periodic reload (already a feature obviously) in the background and just notify either through a simple dot on the tab or a popup (having that a configurable option would be nice) when the page changes?

I'm working on a project () and I want to make a post about it on .
It is functional and works quite well for having started work on it recently. Should I just make the post on HN?

@slashtechno Sure, why not?

Unfortunately it’s a bit cloudy here in North Wales tonight, but I did manage to get a couple pics of the from our back garden.

@kev Beautiful! Thanks for posting this. I wanted to see it, but we live too far south.

mike,
@mike@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev Yea, that's what I heard. I'm still going to go out and look when it gets dark, but I'm not expecting to see anything.

mike,
@mike@fosstodon.org avatar

@dev_ric @kev Yea, I went out last night to see what I could see, but we're just too far south here in Phoenix. I remember ~20ish years ago there being some kind of solar storm where I could see the northern lights in Bozeman, MT when I was living there. They weren't nearly as colorful as what I'm seeing in the pictures people have been taking though. I'm massively jealous. It just looks amazing.

The second this drops I’ll be getting rid of Masto apps and running the PWA. Great work team 👌

@kev I'm a little concerned about the notifications for severed relationships. I don't think it's a bad idea, but I really want it to be obvious why the relationship was severed. If randominstance.social decides to block Fosstodon, we may not have any idea why that happened, and if people on Fosstodon are losing relationships over the block, those people might be rightly coming to us and our team for some WTF conversation. It would be helpful if the notifications point to the actioning instance.

OK, I'm not the sort that's just philosophically opposed to stuff like this. I think these LLMs have very real uses. Having said that, I'd much rather see something locally run like Ollama than having every inquiry going into the DB of Microsoft, Google, or Amazon. It's bad enough all the tracking they're already doing. This just adds a whole new vector for them to track for even more information on us.

I wonder how much more of this type of thing it's going to take before people just raise the Jolly Roger instead.

@reykjalin We still have all of our streaming services, but I don't appreciate paying the prices I'm paying just to have the rug pulled out and them demanding more to get what I had before or I have to watch ads.

Is sleeping on the floor good for your back. I'm not a scientist or anything, but I've slept on the floor many times since I first had children, and not once has it ever made my back feel BETTER.

mike,

@kraftnix I wouldn't advocate for super soft, but my wife (then fiancé) and I bought a memory foam mattress a long time ago, and it's been great. I would never say it's "soft", but it conforms well and is certainly more comfortable than sleeping on the floor.

mike,
@mike@fosstodon.org avatar

@kraftnix Memory foam is interesting. I don't know if it's still this way since we bought ours years and years ago, but we were warned when we first bought it that it would take some time to break in. At first, it's very firm. Uncomfortably so. It takes a solid week before the foam becomes more malleable and conforms. Now, it's one of the best parts about coming home from a trip. Back to my own bed.

The last couple days I've had a very weird headache. Most of the time it feels fine, but then I'll get these sudden spikes. They only last a second or two and I'm back to fine.

I blame The Silence. I'm sure it's their fault.

mike,
@mike@fosstodon.org avatar

@_hic_haec_hoc Yea, it's high, but that's normal for me. Not high as in I need a doctor's visit right now, but high as in I've been told I'm borderline hypertensive. That's been the norm for years though. It's not higher or lower than it usually is.

mike,
@mike@fosstodon.org avatar

@dev_ric Top back. It's like a kippah of pain.

mike,

@dev_ric I'd say more like a pressure thing if I had to put a name on it. It could very well be stress.

@hund@fosstodon.org avatar

Can anyone recommend me a good Markdown editor? I can't seem to find anything that's based on some web engine, which tends to use its own font rendering.

mike,
@mike@fosstodon.org avatar

@hund I either use the Notes feature in or I just use vim.

mike,
@mike@fosstodon.org avatar

@hund Maybe I missed something, but I didn't see anybody mention Joplin?

https://joplinapp.org

I used it for a bit, but found it redundant with Notes in Vivaldi, so I stopped. It was a good editor though, open source and with a decent enough GUI. Otherwise, gVIM. Just vim with a GUI.

mike,
@mike@fosstodon.org avatar

@hund Cloud service is entirely optional. I never used it either.

mike,
@mike@fosstodon.org avatar

@hund Hm, never noticed. Fair enough.

mike,
@mike@fosstodon.org avatar

@hund No, I have a 32" 4K monitor. I don't really remember how old it is, but definitely not a decade that's for sure.

mike,
@mike@fosstodon.org avatar

@hund Heh, well since I wear glasses pretty much full time, I guess you have your answer! 😏

I used to have a multimonitor setup so I could keep more than one thing on the screen at a time. I replaced two smaller monitors with one bigger one. Plus, good for gaming.

First run.

mike,
@mike@fosstodon.org avatar

@fedops Yea, we were looking at some others but weirdly this is probably not going to be mostly for me. My wife is a serial hobbyist, and she'll probably be the one that uses it the most. She's a nerd too, but not a computer nerd so ease of use was a huge factor. I heard a lot of great things about the Bambu stuff, and so far it's lived up to expectations and then some. More FOSS would be nice though.
