An American friend of mine thinks beans on toast is disgusting. So to all none Brits (as we find it delicious)…is it disgusting to you?

Side note - I find it astonishing that someone from the country that invented “cheese in a can” can find this “dish” disgusting. 😂

Well, it's almost at the original game (Berzerk) gameplay-wise. I'm going to aim for the original, then see if any inspiration comes after that. I loved the original, but I have a nagging feeling I want to do more than just clone it like.

I’m a middle aged English bloke, a visitor from the past, so I find high fives awkward. I’ll go along with your high five - I won’t leave ya hangin’ no way that’d be rude - but inside I’ll be thinking the whole experience was a bit odd and I’ll be wondering how forced and awkward it might have looked on the outside.

@mike @kev my brother-in-law could see them in Canada with a 5 second exposure but not by eye. The shots I posted were 3 second exposures so brighter than by eye, and you couldn't see the blues by eye at all, but the red and some of the green & yellow were very visible. We'd driven to a darker spot just up the road but even from our house with surrounding streetlights and such the red was still very visible by eye.

@kev it's only looking for meta info, so you could try slapping the entire HTML body inside an if(!stristr($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'], 'Mastodon'){} so that it only parses if not a Mastodon server.

Also, if you're running PHP as an FPM app, you can control how many instances it fires up in parallel. Be careful not to allow too many at once as memory hungry scripts will eat your resources, but processing more of the queue at once might help. PM.Max_Children setting in Plesk's PHP config page 👍

@kev @hugopoi flat file as in static HTML?

Those graphs look fine to be honest, and if you're serving static HTML then all PHP performance comments can be voided out. My best guess now would be that you're not currently serving the statics with nginx, and/or not currently using gzip compression.

If you're comfortable DMing/emailing over a Plesk login I'd be happy to take a proper look for you. Obviously totally understandable if you're not!

The last couple days I've had a very weird headache. Most of the time it feels fine, but then I'll get these sudden spikes. They only last a second or two and I'm back to fine.

I blame The Silence. I'm sure it's their fault.

@mike around your temples like a regular headache, or at the back of your head?

I've had what I assume to be muscle/nerve twinges at the back before, usually slightly to one side and about level with the ears. Used to get them semi frequently when moving my head too suddenly, and they're super painful but only for a second or two. Only very very very rarely happens now.

@mike hmm. Maybe not then... for me it's like when you bang your elbow, or trap a nerve, but is over more quickly. I don't think I'd call it a pressure feeling though.

@proactiveservices haha, a person! An actual human person, with eyes and everything. She even blurted out "not bad" when she saw my age, and then realised she'd said that out loud and had to follow it with "sorry, you just look good for your age!"

The fact that it's been about a decade since I was last ID'd would however suggest that she just doesn't have good eyesight, but a win is a win 🤷‍♂️

    @psychicparrot42 the last time I received somebody else's package, it took like a week of back and forth with DPD before they finally understood that they'd made a mistake and arranged to re-collect it. The guy I'd been liaising with then sent me a personalised branded biscuit as an apology!

    It still makes me laugh that they make enough apologies to warrant a branded biscuit production line. It's the most British thing I know of. 😂

    I've still got a picture of it somewhere...

    I was motivated to give Fallout 76 a chance after the TV series but after a couple of evenings I think I’m done. It feels like Disney made a Fallout theme park where people are weirdly nice (scavengers just giving you stimpacks?) and everything has already been done before but the actors are trying to make you feel like you’re the protagonist, it’s just weird. And also incredibly bland for the usual MMO reasons

    @sinbad it's not an MMO, but if you haven't already played it, you might like Kingdom Come Deliverance.

    They aimed for realism, so the combat system is infuriatingly difficult, but that's actually one of the cool things about it. Makes you play it strategically to avoid combat because chances are, you'll die.

    @sinbad for example... say there's a mission to retrieve something from an enemy camp. You can either fight your way through and kill some people, or you can slip something into their food and wait until they're all in bed sick, then sneak in.

    The storyline is subject to who's still alive and who you're on good terms with etc. Works rather well.

    It was basically a ChatGPT like message as if I’d typed the question there.

    @kev I've not noticed this happening to my searches yet, but I did recently spot that little speech bubble icon and hovered over to see what it was. That was a disappointing feeling 😔

    I actually rather enjoy "AI" as something to play around with, but I'm also fully aware that it isn't really AI, and everybody jumping onto the implementations bandwagon as if it is, seems dangerous. There are already far too many impressionable people soaking up misinformation in the world without fact-checking!

    @psychicparrot42 I used to know of a 5am that signalled it was time for bed, and I've definitely seen a few 5am's when nipping to the loo in the night, but I don't believe there's a morning version 🤨

    Ah just checked Atgames' facebook and it looks like their servers are back up just in time! I'll have to get at least one pack of Zacc tables, and there's even a Taito pack that has a Zookeeper table, I'm sure Giles will want to get that, he loves Zookeeper :)

    Got to decide which zacc pack to get now!

    @llamasoft_ox does look pretty cool, and I can see the attraction to having something with physical buttons in the proper form factor, but for me I think I'd need it to have a 3D screen before I traded just a regular PC game for one. If any game warrants being in 3D, surely it's pinball? And 3D screens needing you to be in a specific place for the viewing angle isn't an issue when you've to already stand where the buttons are...

    Now I'm wondering what pinballs the Quest has 🤔
