We are now beyond peak fossil gas in the Netherlands.

Never has the country used less gas compared to 40 years ago.

This will only accelerate in future years drive by policy and regulation.

@nafnlaus @janrosenow @semoxenaar @RegulatoryAssistanceProject Well, I'd be pretty NIMBY too when the gas production caused earthquakes that ruined my house to the point it's declared unlivable...

It's political suicide to reopen the gasfields in Groningen.
The other place we could get gas from is the Wadden sea, but it's protected nature that would be endangered by the sinking of the ground.

@nafnlaus Russia is not really having a boost though because. They made lots more money before the war from their gas export

Honest question - is a "utility room" some sort of Midwestern thing?

Talking about how to avoid running ducts through attics, it occurred to me that it might be.

Here, if you don't have a basement, there's usually a room with your furnace/air handler, water heater, and washer/dryer. Plumbing often routes there, too.

Sometimes it's less of a room and more of a closet, but we can't just stick the washer and water heater in the garage 'cause they'll freeze.

@TechConnectify pretty much all Dutch houses have their central heating in the attic. When they don't, it's probably because the house has apartments in it.

There is usually a closet near the front door where the electric and gas gets into the home and where the breaker box is located.

🦀 Has binary size ever been a big issue for you in Rust? Is this an area that needs more active work? What would you like to see happen?

@Mara As an embedded dev, yes definitely.

It would be nice to get lighter-weight string formatting. That takes up an unreasonable amount of flash space.
