When Bloomberg reported that Spotify would be upping the cost of its premium subscription from $9.99 to $10.99, and including 15 hours of audiobooks per month in the U.S., the change sounded like a win for songwriters and publishers. Higher subscription prices typically equate to a bump in U.S. mechanical royalties — but not...
Instagram is profiting from several ads that invite people to create nonconsensual nude images with AI image generation apps, once again showing that some of the most harmful applications of AI tools are not hidden on the dark corners of the internet, but are actively promoted to users by social media companies unable or...
You’re right, it is possible to reject someone’s belief while letting them pray in a public space.
However, when you tangle the prayer into governance you send a signal that the religious practice will, on some level, inform how the people are governed. And that’s not okay in our society.
Under the Medical Priority Dispatch System, or MPDS, ambulances will be dispatched based on answers to detailed questions, and according to five colour-based levels based on the “acuity” of the situation....
No no. Broken bones would probably be Orange. Some bone breaks are potentially life threatening by themselves (pelvis, femur, and skull/spine obviously), and then if they break through the skin that really changes things. Part of this that the call-taker and dispatcher make an informed assessment on the situation based on the information given over the phone.
BC uses this exact system and has for some time. However, they haven’t implemented Green calls yet so they get lumped into Yellow. An example of a Green call might be more like “I accidentally left my daily medication in my pocket when I was doing laundry and the only pharmacy in town isn’t open until 2 days from now and I have no way to get to the hospital by myself”.
Everyone’s got different life situations so scenarios like that one really do come up and they do need caring for, but any reasonable person would agree that they’re in a different category than “I think I’m having a heart attack”

That’s pretty much it. For anyone curious they take user submitted EMS calls and review/critique them. I find it funny as hell but their humor certainly won’t be for everyone. And if you’re not even tangentially working near the EMS field it might not be interesting at all.
I’m noticing an influx of Reddit users today, maybe revolving around their weird bug they had today. I know this question pops up semi regularly, but for those just getting their foot in the door maybe we can help show them what else is out here on the Fediverse to help them get started....
This is the biggest staffing level change since the one announced in summer of 2021 that was a direct result of the heat dome fiasco. This one is (mostly) a result of the new contract that was negotiated.
The shift pattern labels are cryptic and confusing but now many small towns and island communities will have full time at-the-station coverage instead of depending on people wearing a pager and earning $2/hr (and also hoping people are actually willing to work those conditions).
This is a big win and improvement for these communities.
Two of my coworkers frequently mention shows like “Encounters” or “Ancient apocalypse” or whatever. I’m not the best at debating or forming arguments against these though I do feel strongly that bold claims require better evidence than a blurry photo and an eyewitness account. How do you all go about this?...
