Fascinating to hear Sir John Bell saying we needed to invent a new branch of the NHS to undertake Community health care.
Funny he forgot to mention that when founded, in 1948 the NHS was a three legged stool, the hospitals (secondary+ care), Primary care, AND community care. The original design was sound, but the focus moved from looking after people, to providing treatment for illnesses, has led to the neglect of both Community care, almost gone now, & Primary care, on it's knees.

Born in 1956 I remember when prescriptions, opticians, and dentists were part of the NHS: the cost of which was met by National Insurance as were pensions and benefits.

On PM @BBCRadio4 listening to the discussion about the problem of execs concentrating on shareholder value, exemplified by, but not unique to, Boeing currently, 17:40ish, I wondered if any leading politicians were listening. Seems to me that since Mrs T's worship of monetary policy Britain has gone from being a sound trusted partner, to a laughing stock.
Perhaps a new chancellor should consider changing the argument from good money, to supporting good policy by making possible, by funding it.

Listening to Idris Elba being questioned on how to fund youth services, on @BBCRadio4 . He overlooked as did his questioner, that HMG has announced it is going to cut taxes for the rich (and has relaxed bonus caps for the best paid, whilst cutting low pay & benefits). Perhaps, the billions to be spent on the rich, could be invested in children instead. That is much more likely to result in improvement in Britain than giving people with too much money, even more.

Listening to @BBCRadio4 Today, 2 items made me wonder if there is intelligent life in the programme.
The first was the discussion about King's speech proposing extending prison terms for some crimes. By the man who told judges to delay cases, and not impose prison terms due to lack of space. Performative legislation.
2nd CEO post office, the ongoing Horizon Scandal. The concept of the root cause in complex issues is known to be a falsity. So either PO still got ignorant management or worse.

@epistatacadam I stopped listening to state mouthpiece radio a while back now.
From what I've seen on the hashtag on the other side, today was no more of a biased skimming of the surface of whichever issue the editor had told them to focus on.
I notice they didn't ask Chalk whether the tougher sentences for violent crime would apply to his colleagues in the Tory party.

I hope @BBCRadio4 will fact check the rubbish being spewed by the transport minister. I'm surprised the today presenters did not correct the lies he said. There is no blanket 20mph limit even in Urban areas. Since the limit came in, my bus journeys have actually sped up! It may be coincidence, but traffic flow seems to have improved: no stop start! Perhaps England should try it too.Pot holes are being filled but it's a stop gap not the proper maintenance. Worse in England when I visit.

I'm informed by my insulin pump manufacturer that the next up date of iOS and Android may disable my pumps interaction with me. I'm wondering if Apple and Google ought to earn users of their operating systems to check with all their medical devices manufacturers that there is no risk to their health.
Seems kind of important to me, suffice it to say my life depends on my device manufacturer, not on Google, in my case, so updates are switched off.

Perhaps the corporation's should check first?

Listening to the suggestion that £600,000 compensation for innocent people sent to jail by a conspiracy organised by a government body, the PO. I was struck by the interviewer on the BBC calling it a lot of money. I can't help noticing that the presenter clearly thinks getting less than 3 years pay, is good value for a conviction and time in jail, bankruptcy and living for a decade as a convicted fraudster, with all the financial consequences, eg. Getting insurance...

I wonder when a Welsh hospital will be built so that the easiest way to get to outpatients and for staff to work, will be by rail or bus? Currently they seem to be intent on doing the same as at the Heath. Large car parks, impossible by public transport, and clogged roads. No vision for the future. Clearly emergency transport will need to be door to door, but most people do not arrive by ambulance.... And even in emergencies a surprising number arrive by other routes. Eg. Clapham train crash.

@epistatacadam We were all so damn upset that the Grange University Hospital, my nearest A&E completely neglected to consider public transport when it was being built. Despite groups asking for it at the time, now it's a 45 minute drive there and if you need to get a bus, well you outta luck. Despicable!

Quite frankly it should be standard practice to have train stations - and full bus stations - built into the hospital campuses themselves.
