Does anybody have better taste in collaborators than Brian Eno? I love Wrong Way Up, his 1990 album with John Cale!

@KateOfMind That was my introduction to Eno in high school!

Great insight from @hilljam's newsletter yesterday:

"my work got much better when I stopped worrying so much about what other people thought and delved more wholeheartedly into my idiosyncratic interests."

If you are an artist, of any type, at any level of success, and you aren't already putting this into practice as the core of your artistic journey, do it now. It's the single biggest thing you can do to make your art better, AND more satisfying to create.

Chase your dreams, not trends!

Yes, I can confirm that it feels amazing to be able to create your own music.

YOU SHOULD TRY IT SOMETIME

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

@KydiaMusic

LMAO, this is so fucking dumb. I am not even 100% against using tools that might be described as "AI" by the hucksters as part of your creative process, but holy fuck, thinking that typing a few words of description into a machine and having it spit out some milquetoast average of all things that kinda sorta fit your description is "creat[ing] your own music" is just ultimate smoothbrain shit.

Like hitting the DEMO button on a synth and thinking you created that.

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

@KydiaMusic That's been my big takeaway with ALL the AI-generated stuff. If you think it's actually GOOD... well, let's just say I've always been a little suspicious of the average person's taste in art, and now I know I was being way, WAY too generous.

Snyder got Anthony Hopkins to narrate the beginning of Rebel Moon Part Two. Snyder takes himself incredibly seriously. Even with waves hand in general direction of that movie this

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

@Adam_Cadmon1 yeah, that's one of his biggest weaknesses is that he takes himself waaay too seriously

Who's got music they want me to check out? Send me your links!

Up to 15 mins worth of music, hosted on a service that allows payments and/or messages directly to the artists (self hosted, , , @mirlo, jam.coop, SoundCloud, YouTube, etc but NOT Spotify, Tidal etc).

Oh and you have to follow me in some respect (I'll follow back! Looking for community, not "fans" or whatever).

More details in this relatively short blog post:

@4d3fect I'll check it out for sure but I do currently require someone from the actual band to reach out for coverage... If I like it well enough, I can reach out to them tho!

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

@4d3fect no worries, I'm still check it out! I'll take music recommendations from anyone, that's how you find the cool stuff!

@dereisenhofer

Will add it to the queue, but might be a minute since I just covered your metal track a week or two ago. Thanks!

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

@pomCountyIrregs added you to the queue, but since I covered one of yours in the relatively recent past, might be a minute

Godsdamn it, Pittsburgh Modular, if you could stop making badass synths that I feel like I can't live without for a while, that'd be great!

(This is in reference to the new Voltage Lab 2, as well as last year's Taiga, to a lesser degree.)

Especially since they're not cheap 😅

(No shade intended, I KNOW they're actually very cheap for what all they can do, but the raw cost is eye-watering to a indie artist who doesn't make $10's of thousands a year from music making.)

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

@poiseunderchaos ooh there's a few things Arturia makes that I'd snap up in a second if I could...

(Keep telling myself I don't NEED both a MicroFreak and MiniFreak... And the PolyBrute is still my dream analog polysynth, doubly so now that it's got a 12-voice version...)

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

@moirearty another very tempting synth! Lately nearly all my most-wanted synths are semi modular.

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

@poiseunderchaos very much so 😅

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

Okay, in a convoluted series of rabbit holing events, I ended up buying the native plug-in thanks to my infatuation with this synth 😅😭

Hey, it was just $50 since I own the actual opsix and I figured the convenience of having it as a plug-in was worth that, easy, especially since I can program the patches on the EXCELLENT hardware interface and then port them easily to the plug-in.

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

I don't count this as buying new gear so much as it's just paying a convenience fee to extend the capabilities of gear I already have.

So my pledge to not buy new gear this year is still (technically) intact!

(I also didn't buy Synplant 2 after demoing it for a couple weeks. It's very cool but it just didn't feel vital enough to break my pledge. Maybe next year.)

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

If you want to applaud my restraint, I welcome it 😅

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

@LadyMarth01 as an opsix owner, it's SO CHEAP! I looked into grabbing it 6 weeks ago when I went back to DAW-based production but I couldn't find any info on the deal (I didn't look very hard LOL, I had plenty of other stuff to keep me busy in the switch over) but today, as I was tumbling down a series of rabbit holes, a link to the deal just kinda popped up and so I said to heck with it and grabbed it.

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

@LadyMarth01 I'll keep the opsix physical version tho, as programming it is such a pleasure that I don't think a mouse/keyboard-based editing experience could ever hold a candle to it

@poiseunderchaos @ajroach42 @romeorucha oh I get that, and I post A LOT sometimes... Feel free to mute me if you ever need a break from the onslaught! I love Mastodon's time-limited mutes for exactly that purpose myself.

etherdiver,
@etherdiver@ravenation.club avatar

@ajroach42 well, if you want to break out from there, I'll happily drop you a code for anytime in my discography!
