Not to mention that they are extremely wasteful and not good for the environment and our roads. If a small car and SUV went into a head collision the chance of survival of the passengers in the smaller car are much lower.
I’ve noticed in the Linux community whenever someone asks for a recommendation on a laptop that runs Linux the answer is always “Get a Thinkpad” yet Lenovo doesn’t seem to be a big Linux contributor or ally. There’s also at least six Linux/FOSS-oriented computer manufacturers now:...
To be honest, they also made them less serviceable. But in the not so long past they used to be really great. You can easily find replacement parts, upgrade them. If I have to buy a new one, I would buy Framework, if second hand is an option, ThinkPad is unbeatable, but you need to do a small research which model doesn’t have soldered RAM and offers battery replacement.
Considering how crazy expensive accommodations have become the last couple of years, concentrated in the hands of greedy corporations, landlords and how little politicians seem to care about this problem, do you think we will ever experience a real estate market crash that would bring those exorbitant prices back to Earth?
Check Germany, only 49.5% own their houses and the situation is getting steadily worse.
It is getting ridiculously expensive and the majority of the people cannot afford getting a mortgage. In Munich the average sq.m. is between 8 and 15K while the average salary is 3K and the rent for 70sq.m. flat is 1.500€.
You do realize that there are other ways to invest, bonds, shares, ETFs, etc.
In my opinion if you earn average or above average for the city you live in you should be able to afford a roof over your head easily which is not anymore the case for a lot of places.
The point is that those price declines would benefit only the wealthy who had the money in cash, but regular people are not having so much savings and for them even those “lower” prices are actually higher when considering the interest they will pay to the banks.
Ah yes, shall I remind you that not everyone is as fortunate as you are. And your arrogant and self entitled attitude doesn’t help the picture. I pity individuals like you, who think so highly of themselves.
Maybe we, the apes who work from 9 to 5 should simply die so that there is no one to pay the rent for your shitty apartments or service them.
Do you think you will be at the same place if you were born in a ghetto or to parents who would not be able to provide you with education. There are plenty of smarter kids out there who are way more capable than you will ever be but they would never achieve their true potential because of lack of education, opportunities, parental support, social circle, place, country, etc.
But I guess self awareness is not your forte.
And if you really wanted to make a positive impact you would make your housing affordable but we all know that would never happen.
Just out of curiosity but are we talking about Talinn? I am coming from east Europe, where accommodation used to be cheap, now it is 2500€ per square meter in the capital. The last 3 years prices spiked quite considerably. I am currently living in Munich where the square meter is 8-12.000€ depending on the energy efficiency, the location and how new the building is.
Maybe buys something that you can expand in the future by adding extra RAM, replace the storage and exchange the battery. A lot of the modern laptops don’t allow you to do any of those (planned obsolescence?). I know older ThinkPads are a good option but I think newer models are less serviceable. In Linux you can use tlp to tune up your battery usage and reduce the power consumption to the bare minimum. I would also recommend a second-hand ThinkPad, but just check if it is upgradeable.

Why do people still recommend Thinkpads for Linux when there are Linux-oriented manufacturers now?
