frozengriever,

This one too:

Cover Up (1984). While waiting for an episode filming to resume, actor Jon-Erik Hexum played Russian roulette with a .44 Magnum loaded with a blank. The gunshot fractured his skull and caused massive cerebral hemorrhaging when bone fragments were forced through his brain. He was rushed to Beverly Hills Medical Center, where he was pronounced brain dead.>

frozengriever,

You mean like the East India Company which led the British colonization of India and lasted longer than the USA has been in existence (so far)?

Wisconsin Supreme Court chief justice accuses liberal majority of staging a 'coup' (apnews.com)

The conservative chief justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court on Monday told the new liberal majority in a scathing email that they had staged a “coup” and conducted an “illegal experiment” when they voted to weaken her powers and fire the director of state courts....

frozengriever,

It’s a deliberate campaign to muddle the meaning of words. Look at what conservatives have done to “fake news” or “woke” to see how they’re building a parallel Newspeak language

frozengriever,

It’s amazing that his follow-up, Return of the Obra Dinn is just as brilliant but in a completely different genre.

frozengriever,

Time to put money on him scoring a goal that knocks Arsenal out of the Champion’s League.

frozengriever,

Bill Watterson actually expressed his disappointment with this strip because the fixed panel layout wasted a lot of space at the top while making the lower part very crowded. The fixed panel layout was for the benefit of newspapers who might rearrange the panels to fit their papers and often excluding the top row entirely.

He was eventually able to negotiate with his publishers to get a fixed size layout for his later Sunday strips.

frozengriever,

RetroArch could also be worth a shot if you’re open to emulation: f-droid.org/packages/com.retroarch/

You can't uninstall this software without being forced to participate in their survey (lemmy.world)

I initially only installed “Comodo Firewall” but for some reason they also installed a “Comodo Dragon Browser”, which I did not consent to. I always choose the “advanced” installation to uncheck bloatware, but in this case there was none and when you try to uninstall the browser, they force you to participate in...

frozengriever,

I haven’t used third party firewalls or AV since Windows 7 or so, especially when these programs started to act more like malware themselves with the constant nagging.

frozengriever,

Interesting to see how Ubisoft intends to differentiate this from Ghost of Tsushima.

frozengriever,

Such angst and yet no mention of Mastodon as a FOSS alternative.

frozengriever,

They’ve always wanted to build a wall. Hopefully they wall themselves off from the rest of the world.

frozengriever,

Yes, it’s certainly a catchy headline. Interesting they’re essentially resorting to clickbait to get a reaction.

frozengriever,

Relevant xkcd for the occasion: https://m.xkcd.com/1357/

Those "free speech" places just end up degenerating into a cesspool where people who were banned elsewhere end up congregating.

frozengriever,

I guess the CEO of OceanGate joining them for the dive would have given them a false sense of comfort.

Interestingly, that same CEO mentioned that the Titan submersible was already showing signs of cyclical fatigue back in 2020:

It would be fascinating if we could get an aircraft disaster style analysis but I don't know if they would do so for marine accidents.

frozengriever,

Seeing this from Lemmy so it's all connected anyway.

frozengriever,

She's serious about cleaning up the planet

frozengriever,

Ape Legends - a simian themed battle royale

I find there are some retro titles that have been eclipsed by their sequels, what are some that hold up better than their later iterations in your opinion.

My title of choice would probably be Daggerfall because it's just so ambitious and truly offers an experience none of the other elder scrolls games offer. That being said it is kinda an example of a sequel eclipsing it's predecessors as well given it is more or less a straight improvement over Arena in every way.

frozengriever,

The original Deus Ex is still amazing and has definitely held up better than the immediate sequel, Invisible War. The Eidos Montreal sequels have their charms and are definitely more accessible to modern gamers, but lacks the flexibility for emergent solutions that you could come up with in the original game.
