I still play games, but I did definitely notice a change in the way I do play them.

When I was young, there was a magic to everything. Most of the things in life are pretty new to you when you’re young. There’s so much you don’t understand, so much new stuff to explore. I didn’t know that the guests in Rollercoaster Tycoon were just some simple algorithms, to me they seemed like people. People who’d enjoy all the crazy things I’d build. I didn’t know that the AI in Age of Empires was just a collection of some rules, to me they felt human-like.

Over time, especially because I’m a programmer, the magic got lost. I started understanding how these things worked. And because of that it started feeling pointless. Just something I do to waste my time and nothing else. The guests felt nothing, the AoE AI are just some if statements.

However, somehow I also kinda outgrew that phase again. After dealing with what could be called a “quarter life crisis” I’ve kind of found a more creative and open minded side of myself. One that doesn’t always try to resolve everything to cold hard facts. One that pretends that the guests in RCT have feelings, even if I damn well know that they don’t. I’ve started finding plenty of new games that filled me with wonder again, whether they are large games like Cyberpunk or Jedi Survivor, or smaller games like Celeste, Hades, or Cassette Beasts. Coincidentally I also stopped playing live service and competitive games mostly. There’s plenty of fun to be had beyond all the lootbox and battle pass grindfests.

Shit, another existential crisis. At least I’ll forget about it soon

Ridiculous. How can someone write “we value your privacy” and then share data with 807 partners. If I share anything with 8 people I pretty much consider it public information already, unless I have a very good reason to trust them. Sharing something with 807 companies is probably less private than taking all that data, putting it up on a billboard, and placing that billboard next to the busiest place in town.

There’s still some stuff going on, but it’s quite dead yeah. In the broader scope of RTS games you still have stuff like Age of Empires 4 and Beyond all Reason, both of which I find a lot of fun. But neither are really much like C&C. What is like C&C is Tempest Rising, which is currently under development. I played the demo and it did feel very C&C like, which is good, but time will tell how polished it will be on release.

Oh awesome, I haven’t checked the other 2 out yet. Thanks for the suggestions!

Not a console player, but cool that the console crowd now also gets to enjoy these games. I don’t think I’ve ever finished any of the stories, but I sure had a great time exploring the worlds of Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat. Just walking around you somehow always managed to stumble into crazy encounters. The world felt so dynamic, with all the faction interactions and monsters. One big scary sandbox

I’m already very good at the eepy part :3

Damn that elevated track does look futuristic. Very Wipeout-esque. I do wonder how they want to make sure that the cars don’t tumble down in case of an accident. And also how to retrieve cars that get stuck there somehow due to failures or crashes. I also hope they manage to fix their human rights issues before then, preferably sooner

When I started watching F1 I thought it was about cars and racing. But it’s really just a show about some of the richest people on earth failing desperately to control their own ego’s. It’s intriguing, all these interpersonal chess matches playing out. All this drama, and just to keep the drama going we have some cars driving some laps behind Max in a semi-random order every now and then.

I don’t think these albums will exactly match the music tastes of people here, but here we go:

  • Phuture Noize - Silver Bullet (Hardstyle)
  • Phuture Noize - From Star to Stardust (Hardstyle)
  • Etherwood - Neon Dust (Chill DnB/Electronic music)

Everything is “the left” if you’re far right

It really feels like there are a lot of games being played here. I’d like to know whether the Google Drive documents are real. If they are, I feel no sympathy for Horner, he’s done. But at the same time it definitely feels like this was leaked to harm Horner, not to help the victim. I guess Jos is right about something: if this continues it will rip the team in half. Though he is definitely an important player in this game himself

10 years ago or something I bought a collection album from an artist I liked. I just did it because I like collecting CDs and I liked his music, but it turns out that it was a limited edition and only 1000 were made, each one had a unique number on it. I’ve seen them go for a few hundred on discogs a few times. I don’t intend to sell mine though, it’s in a pretty used state because I didn’t really realize the value. I’d also rather have it than have a few hundred euro’s.

I agree with Ricciardo, very immature. This is the kind of behavior I’d expect from people in online lobbies, not professional athletes

I loved this game. All these planets and their different vibes and playstyles. All the different endings.

I guess the battle for 1st is still non-existent. At least the battle after Max is getting closer and closer

Religion is a poison. Why can’t they just let people be

gerryflap,

I mean, after basically every second comment I saw from hexbear was tankie nonsense I definitely started judging them differently. They’re extremists who seem to want to turn everything into a debate. So I made sure to block them. Most instances are fine though, and are indeed not that different than the brand of pants someone wears: not something I really care about.

How does this work for the modern world though? Many of the people who make the financial decisions for the company that I work for are also normal people with a normal income. Their job is to maximize profit for the company under certain constraints, but it’s not like they directly get that money for themselves. The image of the proletariat working ungodly hours in dangerous factories while a few rich fat capitalists claim all the money is often quite far from reality in my experience, apart from the ultra-rich CEOs like Musk and Bezos. And I don’t disagree that we should regulate the income disparity or anything, I just think that these classes don’t really make that much sense anymore

I don’t buy them anymore, same with candy and most other snacks. I know what happens once that stuff enters the house: I eat it all in a few days. The easiest place to stop this is in the supermarket when I consider buying the stuff.

Still cool, and you’ve learnt something which is even better

People here sometimes like to hate on generative AI, but I don’t think I would’ve ever been able to admire this piece of art without it.

gerryflap,
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

This grass is tripping me out. There’s weird patterns in it, something is off. Might have to do with the noise that is used as input for these AI models. There are blobs of colour that are connected in a way that wouldn’t happen in normal grass

gerryflap,
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

Oh absolutely. It’s quite impressive that we can generate so many decent quality images of jeanified things this quickly. I’ve played around quite a bit with generative models during my data science degree and I’m very interested in the ways they get things wrong. It’s interesting to see how our brains sometimes pick up very subtle patterns like this.
