I’ve played Rocket League for more than 2000 hours since its release, but honestly I kinda felt like it was dying. Very little interesting new content, silly decisions like removing trading. I haven’t played seriously for more than a year now. It’s surprising to me to still see it so high up

I have nothing else to do, no external worries, and I feel motivated to work on my hobbies (programming, music production). Then I’ll spend most of the day working on said hobbies, learning some new things and creating/adding something cool. Then in the evening I’ll do something fun with friends. Maybe at some point I’ll go for a walk or run.

How weird that it’s so different just over the border. Here in the Netherlands it’s opt-out and afaik it was quite easy to enroll when it was still opt-in.

gerryflap,
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

Yep. I’ll be dead anyway, so I have no use for them anymore. If it can save someone’s life then imo it’d be a bit selfish not to. I was already registered when it was still opt-in, but now it’s become opt-out here in the Netherlands so even better. It’ll make sure that a lot of people who don’t care either way will now save life’s that we otherwise wouldn’t.

Even worse is that this is from 2016, so we’re 8 years further along and not enough has happened

Do people really constantly copy-paste code? If I don’t know something I’ll look it up, but then I’ll read the answer and apply it to the code I’m writing rather than copying it directly. I rarely see a piece of code that I can copy over directly into what I’m doing, and even if I can it’s usually not thr best idea because the naming etc would be inconsistent

Naar ventje is het, die Baudet. Verbaast me niet dat hij of één van z’n medewappies zich zo gedraagt, maar 't is wel triest

Yeah the DLC is really scummy imo. Definitely not worth the money. I’m just gonna ignore it. What’s more hopeful is the free patch with the introduction of mods and a good amount of bugfixes. If they keep this going they might be able to pull a Cyberpunk (although slightly less dramatic).

gerryflap,

I get what you say, but I bought Cyberpunk after the fixes and it’s legitimately one of my favourite games I’ve ever played. They should’ve never been in this position, but they righted their wrongs instead of abandoning the game and they made it into the masterpiece it deserved to be.

Good idea, they’re on the right path, but not there yet imo

I wouldn’t say so for most people. I bought it (figuring I could refund it if it was bad) and tbh the performance and buggyness weren’t too much of an issue. A way bigger issue is the late game and how all the systems interact. These issues only became apparent to me deep into the game.

My main issues are how you’re basically forced to work around cars. Every attempt I made to ditch cars or trucks would land me into bugs and unbalanced systems. I had a lot of issues with cargo train stations, I had weird deadlocks with trams and trains that grinded my city to a halt, I found that the bus lanes are just a suggestion and won’t keep out traffic, and I started missing bikes more and more (they’re not in the game). It’s basically just a horrible American city simulator, and that’s the only way you can play without running into trouble. A lot of that may be fixed, I haven’t played after the patch, but still I feel like the game needs some time in the oven. Especially for the price.

I like how specifically this relates to my experience with the discount factor gamma in Reinforcement Learning. Like, pretty close to the exact numbers (though missing 0.99 and 0.999)

I kinda suck at Tetris. We had a “LAN” last year where we played some battle royale Tetris game, and there was one girl who absolutely demolished everyone. After that I feel like a kid playing (and failing) with one of those block shape matching toys whenever I play Tetris. It’s a cool game though. Nice simple gameplay, but high skill ceiling. I respect people who absolutely destroy me at a game due to pure skill

Shit, they’ve adapted. Now I need to avoid the sirens too.

Multiplayer update hype! Also love that acoustic version of Arrow of Time at the end

I’m a programmer, so this is pretty much a constant thing haha. Sometimes you write the smartest shit imaginable, and sometimes you waste 4 hours on something extremely simple.

gerryflap,
@gerryflap@feddit.nl avatar

It’s so random indeed. Recently I spent weeks on end debugging a “simple table” with a few columns. Constantly had data races, weird edge cases, and bugs that took days to appear. And then sometimes you just ace something complicated in one go and wonder “why did this look so hard”.

The Dutch John Smith. Very common first and last names here.

I guess it’s a matter of priorities. Some experts will deal a lot with air quality in their field, so they go kinda tunnel vision on that. And others (like firefighters) will be very focused on the fire safety aspect so to them that seems most important.

Personally I usually close all doors for fire safety except for my bedroom door because the air quality improvement is just too large. I can open a window, but it usually blows open further due to the wind. Then it becomes too noisy and cold. So I tend to keep it closed when it’s cold outside.

Right now I’m basically playing Beyond All Reason almost every evening. It’s a game in the Total Annihilation “tree” of games. A massive scale RTS. I previously played Supreme Commander and Planetary Annihilation, both of which are also inspired by Total Annihilation, but I have to say that BAR is really better than both of them. I almost can’t believe it’s an open source game. It’s still in alpha, but it’s been way more stable than most AAA games I’ve been playing recently.

Ah cool, didn’t know that Zero-K had a whole campaign going on. I think we’re kinda opposites though, because I really don’t enjoy the RTS campaign gameplay experience. I’d much rather play against bots (or maybe online).

Isn’t it to make sure that you’re not mixing two incompatible chargers? I have 2 Philips chargers that do fit (as far as I can see), but are not the same voltage. I’ve previously also had something like this where 2 fitting chargers were completely different electrically, one 12V AC and the other 9V DC. One time a family member mixed them up, bit luckily the extra voltage didn’t fry anything. I don’t mind having to get an extra charger of it prevents me from doing something dumb and frying my electronics.

(Rumour) Albon's car can't be repaired overnight, Williams looking at option to give him Sargeant's car and make Sargeant sit out weekend (twitter.com)

[Tobi Grüner] We hear Albons chassis can’t be repaired over night & will go back to the factory tomorrow. Albon might get the only running car that’s left if there is a realistic chance of points & if Sargeants contract allows Williams to make the swap.

Damn that sucks for Logan. Looking at only this race, from a purely logical perspective, I do get it. But even if we take empathy out of the equation, I’m not sure if this would be the optimal move when you take the rest of the season into account. Showing confidence in Logan and letting him have a go surely would help him a lot, and might increase his performance over the rest of the season. Especially if he does perform decently. By giving his car to Albon they so raise their potential for points, but might absolutely shatter Logan’s confidence and motivation.

Every point counts, especially now that the top 5 teams are quite a bit ahead of the rest. But damn, that’s brutal

It’s hard to say what I’d recommend for a 1 player run because I didn’t really do those. I think I’d go for a solid “base” class like a warrior, barbarian, wizard, or something. Ultimately it’ll always be difficult though. Maybe something ranged like wizard, arcanist, or tinkerer is actually easier when playing solo because you can stay out the range of most enemies. But when they get close, you’ll probably get killed because there’s no-one to protect you.

Ultimately, if I were you, I’d just play whatever I want. Dying is extremely common in this game, so just accept that, have fun, and get better.
