glimse,

So many belly button piercings in the 90s. Probably got it done at Claire’s

glimse,

Criticizing Biden is totally fine. It’s the pressure from these posters to not vote for Biden out of principle that’s the problem.

Biden is flubbing the Gaza situation hard but he’s still (unfortunately) our only chance to keep Trump out of office.

This post should really say “Just because we dislike Biden doesn’t mean we shouldn’t vote for him”

glimse,

How the hell did you come to that idiotic conclusion?

glimse,

“I don’t like Biden’s support for Israel’s genocide so I’m going to make it more likely that the guy who would support Israel’s genocide even more gets into office.”

Incredibly dumb take.

glimse,

For years whenever my coworker or I fucked up really bad, we’d reference that. “We did it, reddit!” when it was our own fuckup or “Look at this backpack” with a picture of theirs. Man, what a fiasco that whole thing was.

glimse,

Yes the Boston Marathon bombings. The police found the backpack(s) and reddit went on a crusade looking at footage and photos from before the explosion…identifying at least one person who had a similar backpack and declaring them the bomber. Then, of course, came trying to ID them. I’m pretty sure they figured out who one of them was but - shocker - it wasn’t him. Neither of the actual bombers were even on reddit’s suspect list.

As much as I like to make fun of it, at the time I was really hyped on the idea of a thousand strangers coming together to help. It would have been a really cool ending to the store if reddit actually helped but the whole thing was soured by people taking it too far by putting names to their “suspects”

Maman- Louise Bourgeois, bronze & marble sculpture (1999) (lemmy.world)

Maman (1999) is a bronze, stainless steel, and marble sculpture in several locations by the artist Louise Bourgeois. The sculpture, which depicts a spider, is among the world’s largest, measuring over 30 ft high and over 33 ft wide (927 x 891 x 1024 cm).[1] It includes a sac containing 32 marble eggs and its abdomen and thorax...

glimse,

Here’s a couple more. I remember seeing a photo of the one in the water years ago

glimse,

How are you getting these summaries? I’m trying to get my own silly results like this but it doesn’t show up anywhere I’ve tried.

I tried on Android and PC then tried a different Google account in Chrome on my work laptop. I even made sure AI Overviews were enabled on the Labs page

Linus Tech Tips (LTT) release investigation results on former accusations (x.com)

There were a series of accusations about our company last August from a former employee. Immediately following these accusations, LMG hired Roper Greyell - a large Vancouver-based law firm specializing in labor and employment law, to conduct a third-party investigation. Their website describes them as “one of the largest...

glimse,

I’m glad this report showed their innocence but I unsubscribed after the GN/Billet Labs thing.

I might check them out again later but that situation made me kind of uncomfortable with supporting them

glimse,

I saw that which is why I’m willing to give them another chance. I really don’t think Linus is a scummy guy or anything, they just grew too fast without thinking.

I haven’t had a strong desire to get back into the channel but if a video pops up on my feed again, I might resub.

glimse,

I agree but it did shake my confidence enough to make me back off. I watched LTT mostly for entertainment (GN for news and reviews) and I’ve since “filled that spot” so it’ll probably only make its way back into my watch list once a different thing falls off.

The 'Appeal to Heaven' flag evolves from Revolutionary War symbol to banner of the far right (apnews.com)

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito is embroiled in a second flag controversy in as many weeks, this time over a banner that in recent years has come to symbolize sympathies with the Christian nationalist movement and the false claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen....

glimse,

They saw the word “heaven” and thought it was about religion so they just ran with it. Certainly not the first time that group has misunderstood and appropriated (inappropriated?) something

glimse,

I think it’s fair to err on the side of shadiness with OpenAI considering their training data controversies with gtp and Sora.

I don’t mean this argumentatively but would you be surprised if it came out that they did use Johansson’s voice to train it?

glimse,

I don’t think it’s a witch hunt to call it into question, though. I feel bad for the voice actor they hired but what they showed of it is remarkably similar to Johansson’s iconic voice from Her.

It’s akin to (though not nearly on the same level) as having a voice that says “it’s-a-me, Vincenzo! Wahoo!” and saying it’s just a coincidence that it sounds like Mario

glimse,

I don’t think anyone is claiming that they scrapped the hired actor’s voice completely. I’m inclined to think they supplemented the training data with Johansson’s long career.

OpenAI has not been very open about where they source anything and there’s more evidence than not that they’ve used copyrighted material in the past.

glimse,

Maybe. I don’t claim to know the truth, just saying that thinking they’re being shady is an not unfounded thought

glimse,

Might be a hard sell to the group but I’ll see what they say. I just replied to the OC saying this but in retrospect, a lot of my issues are definitely with roll20 and not 2e. Feels like when I have to enter things in 5 different places sometimes!

glimse,

I would love to play a Baby’s First Pathfinder Campaign that introduced the systems one by one. Though maybe that’s just a d&d campaign…

glimse,

The group I’m with can’t stand d&d and I didn’t want to play with strangers so I’m “stuck” with it. It’s not bad, just a lot to take in

glimse,

Is it a shorter campaign? I’d be willing to join a group of strangers if it’s only a couple sessions, I just couldn’t commit to a long one

glimse,

I’m sure it also didn’t help that I only had a day or two to put together a level 7 character. Having to manually enter everything for a game I’ve never played was a lot

glimse,

Yeah, I joined their campaign when someone had to drop out. We’re up to 14 now and I deeply regret the decisions I’ve made along the way but it’s too hard to backtrack now lol

When we’re done with this one we’re gonna do the GM’s homebrew and I’ll be putting more thought into what I want to play. I’m sure you’ll be seeing my post requesting input in the coming weeks…the possibilities are very daunting.

glimse,

That seems like what I should have started with, then.

glimse,

m.imdb.com/title/tt10548174/

Only reason I’m not outright dismissing this sequel is because Danny Boyle is directing it. I thought 28 Weeks Later fell short of the original but it was still enjoyable enough.
