Rare opportunity to reply with software!

Thinking about writing up some usage of esoteric/under appreciated operating systems.

  • Please do suggest some that will run on either: a standard amd64 PC or a Raspberry Pi 4. Not interested in virtual machines.

  • Please do not suggest: Windows, macOS, Ubuntu/Debian/Fedora Linux or things based on them (like Kubuntu, or Linux Mint)

Please boost this so I can get lots of good replies.

@ayo Thanks for building this @anze3db, I've already found some great accounts to follow! A couple of things that would make it even better, the Nix language uses a regex that matches people mentioning Unix or *nix, so it has a lot of false positives. Secondly, I'd love to see added to the list of languages, and to add JuliaLang.social to the index :)

Can any nerds tell me how a "nix-native" program would handle configuration? If the primary way to configure my app is with a configuration.nix files, what is the best way to pass that configuration information to the app? Can the app just read the nix store directly somehow? Or would it need to write the config to a file which the app would read? Thanks in advance 😁

@nebucatnetzer ah okay, makes sense to use existing file formats, i was wondering if there's a way to skip that config file and just write the app in a way to interface with nix directly somehow :)

Pretty funny seeing the stdlib not being PEP compliant... Why wasn't this fixed in the transition from Python 2 to 3?

@Edent @kraftner Just want to let you know that that list has Taiwan listed as "Taiwan" in its local language, but it should be "台灣" or "臺灣". I'll edit it when I'm not on mobile.
