how adhd am i? very. very highly extremely levels of adhd

You want me to design extremely resilient distributed systems and teach people how to do that, design architecture, and level up an organization? Sure, no problem

Make one single solitary tiny lil phone call or fill out even the barest hint of paperwork? Absolutely not, it is so hard

hazelweakly,
@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

I need to call the IRS to verify my identity so I can get my tax refund from 2022 released

I also need to pay my CPA from last year

And get my student loans on autopay

And dig through all the rest of my random medical accounts and make sure they're all current and paid up

And I have contact lenses sitting at the doctor since, like, September

And the windshield on my car is cracked and any day now I'll remember to submit a claim for that and get it repaired

hazelweakly,
@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

Oh yeah, and get my passport figured out for the trip to Toronto in a few weeks.

The one I'm speaking at kubehuddle about? Yeah, that one. Need a passport for that shit. Mine expired a year ago and I haven't gotten that fixed yet.

Or finished changing my name on basically anything yet. My car title's fucked up, so are all of my credit cards

And almost everything has the wrong address on it because I've moved too many times in the past two years

@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

Anyways, if you ever find yourself thinking "Hazel is so smart, and she's amazing, wow I wish I could be as cool as she is" or "Hazel has her shit together so well", ... yeah, about that

Just remember: there's always the other side of life that you don't get to see. The less glamorous, gorgeous side where I lay in bed all day unable to move due to ADHD paralysis, or where I struggle to do the dishes for 3 days, or put off cleaning for two months.

You're doing fine :)

hazelweakly,
@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

@artcollisions I have a bunch of name inconsistencies everywhere. But I need to be flying may 7 or so. So, yeah, 😅

I'm not extremely worried but I am gonna be cutting it quite close

hazelweakly,
@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

@recursive it does ❤️❤️❤️

(Am accepting applications to the polycule for someone who wants a sugar muscle mommy and loves doing taxes, calling insurance companies, and all forms of paperwork /joking)

@tuban_muzuru I have a task manager I really like and it's immensely helpful. I'm pretty behind on it lately, but it helps me keep track of things even when it's drowning, so it's super worth it for me

Redbooth looks good though!

hazelweakly,
@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

@shanecelis there's still time to procrastinate!

hazelweakly,

@morten_skaaning I have a dishwasher that actually works, which has made the dishes much less of a hassle for me. But organization has been a massive struggle for me since I moved rapid fire several times in the last 10 months and I haven't stabilized things yet. It'll happen in a month or two, I just need to deal with a few other things first :)

hazelweakly,
@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

@amye see its funny, I live in Seattle now, not Portland. So you're actually right in my backyard now this week!

(But I appreciate the encouragement ❤️)

@artcollisions oh shoot I forgot about the photo 😅

Excellent, thanks for reminding me! There are some places that do the photo in location and have availability, I just need to have all the other documents in order first

@samstokes my dotfiles are organized as fuck. My sock drawer doesn't exist anymore. Priorities? In progress

was going to put in a 3 way smart dimmer in the kitchen. in some previous renovation a light switch was relocated and in doing so all the wires are black. they ran them through a hole in a metal cover plate that seems... ill advised. I stopped the project until I can rewire it properly and tap into ground and neutral for the new switch and at least label everything 🤦‍♀️

hazelweakly,
@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

@renice my current house has the most janky wiring you've ever seen. I suspect the wiring is almost all original but I fear that it might actually be worse than that...

It's a rental though, so I'm not gonna rewire it myself, but ughhh I wanna do that so badly

i should go to the pub, it's been months

hazelweakly,
@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

@tef my neighborhood vibes pub ended up being queer hostile and ran by people who aren't great and I'm sad because I liked everyone there :(

hazelweakly,
@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

@tef i knowww. it was a block away and had decent food. it's also the latest kitchen open near here and just ugh, fuck everything, y'know?

What's one of the silliest domain names you own? Mine is legit-elephant.lol and there's an entire story behind it. Some of you were even here for this!

C'mere and sit down, I'll tell you the story of the fateful night in the fediverse where Elon Musk flipped his lid and the entire fediverse flipped a middle finger to him.

The story begins during the winter holidays of 2022, back when hachyderm lived on Kris Nova's servers

It was a different world then, wasn't it?

hazelweakly,
@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

@digichelle yes! That's exactly right! It's actually still up, there's just no point to it anymore :)

hazelweakly,
@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

@OddDev @digichelle Yeah, so

legit-elephant.lol/@hazelweakly --> redirects to hachyderm.io/@hazelweakly

legit-elephant.lol/@hazelweakly/112262165100449917 --> redirects to the root post of this thread

legit-elephant.lol/@hachyderm.io --> redirects to hachyderm.io

hazelweakly,
@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

@OddDev @digichelle they couldn't execute the client side JavaScript, so yeah. And checking client side JavaScript is orders of magnitude more expensive then just resolving a URL, so there was no way to address it feasibly :)

hazelweakly,
@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

@danderson damn, that sucks :(

I have weak.li too for whenever I figure out how to finally get my newsletter off the ground. Imma call it Weakly Weekly Weakly at weak.li

Y'know, (weekly, at best effort (by hazel weakly) at weak.li)

Because I'm hilarious like that

hazelweakly,
@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

@ricci I think I did! But it's been so long that I forgot

It's a beautiful domain name tho. Excellent choice there for the law360 email, @molly0xfff :)

@Martindotnet I have a sticker with onlyspans on it! It's on my water bottle!

Excellent name :)

I have a somewhat controversial view of AI in that I don't think it's actually going to ruin anything because we were already doing a damn good job of throwing everything good about humanity in the trash long before AI came around.

That said, there's something that's really really painful to me: capitalism wants to control scarce resources, and late stage capitalism turned human interaction into a resource to be hoarded, harvested, and farmed.

AI magnified that, but the damage was already done

hazelweakly,
@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

@aoanla @gvwilson yeah that's also a very valid point. I tried to bring that up in what I talked about, but it definitely didn't come from academics wanting to ruin the quality of their own work :)

plcon, to random

As our field becomes more competitive, researchers are starting earlier and earlier. This year, PLCon is introducing the pre-school track. How such a junior researcher could be substantially involved in state-of-the-art methods, techniques, background knowledge, etc is frankly beyond us but. We invite pre-schoolers to submit their research paper on the topic of programming languages for social impact. Papers should be 4 pages. LLMs should make this pretty easy; go nuts.

hazelweakly,
@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

@plcon so I sent the CFP to my kid but he couldn't find the "playdough" package for \LaTeX. Is there a publisher provided \LaTeX class or sty that I need to include?

I’ve been making demos of CSS Grid level 3 lately, to show off what putting masonry/waterfall-like layout support in CSS Grid can do. (I’ve got 16 demos and counting!)

Here’s one with that includes View Transitions, running in Safari Technology Preview 192.

What do you want to know about how masonry-like layouts could work in CSS Grid?

a collection of photos — all different shapes and sizes, laid out in a puzzle-like pattern. A mouse moves over one image. Click. And the image grows bigger. The rest animate to scoot out of the way to make space. Click again, and the image gets smaller, while all the rest scoot back to where they started.

hazelweakly,
@hazelweakly@hachyderm.io avatar

@jensimmons this is fuckin amazing. I love it! I can't wait to see it rolled out :)

I bet we're gonna be able to do fun things with this and 3d transforms
