It's been a busy Q1 for tidymodels with the release of features for survival analysis and fairness - but that's not even all! The post for tune 1.2.0 shows further goodies in that release. This new Q1 roundup post surfaces even more from across the package collection! These roundup posts highlight changes nice enough to mention but maybe not big enough for their own post.

A key component of the new tidymodels functionality for survival analysis are the new metrics. This post walks you through the Brier score and area under the ROC curve, as adapted for predictions of survival probability!

SatRday London is coming up! Next week Saturday (🥁 ), April 27, at King's College organised by @jumpingrivers I'll be talking about survival analysis with tidymodels. Come join us for a day of R-related talks, tickets are available at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/satrdays-london-2024-registration-758588196717

We've released support for survival analysis in tidymodels. This methodology is useful for all kinds of time-to-event data: That event may be a customer churning, a machine needing repairs or replacement, a shelter animal being adopted, etc.

For a new case study on tidymodels.org, that event is a complaint to the NYC Departments of Buildings being dispositioned. The analysis shows how to use tidymodels for censored regression, covering the whole process.

New: tidymodels supports survival analysis! This now unlocks the entire framework for analysis of time-to-event data.

On the tidyverse blog, I make a case for when this is useful and cover what's new to make this happen:

What makes an album the greatest of all time?

The pudding has a visual essay exploring the Rolling Stone rankings of the "500 greatest albums of all time" from 2003, 2012, and 2020.

The tidymodels digest for Q4 2023 is here!

We continue to improve error messages, this time in recipes. And unlike usual, we are also looking ahead to Q1 because we are so excited! Survival analysis! 👀 Model fairness! 👀

If you are putting together Secret Santa pairings, TJ Mahr's blog post is really nice because it's easy to extend and include your own restrictions:

ath_na_klar,

@hfrick I haven’t seen this before. Weirdly enough you can tell that its a diagram and not just some random cranked lines, at first glance.

@ath_na_klar I was thinking more of generative art than diagrams (in the sense of visualisations that carry specific information) but yeah, definitely not a random pattern underneath, at least to my tube-map-trained eyes!

I’ve been so excited to come to and give a keynote! Thank you for having me and letting me nerd out about cognitive load and programming. My slides on ways to read and write code that support your brain in its tasks are at https://hfrick.github.io/2023-latinr

@Drmowinckels is killing it in taking us on SciFi adventures about packages, CRAN, and the R-universe! Do check out the video when they are available! The talk has magic, binaries, maturing as a developer, pragmatism, brain atlases, and ways to make your packages easily available for your users beyond CRAN and GitHub.

The material from both tidymodels workshops, intro and advanced, is available at https://workshops.tidymodels.org/ if you are curious! The best resources for remote learning probably are https://www.tidymodels.org/ and https://www.tmwr.org/ though!
