@bleeptrack Hmm I'm more interested in how to hook up the Lidar and to read it out and generate the point cloud etc. :) Basically a Lidar “hacking" guide :) Not saying you should do it - but it opened up my curiosity :) Could I use this to scan my room/appartment etc … oh more questions pop up :)

A sizeable amount of us can’t deal with Ruby-like languages, me included. So if you say something like the above, you’re telling me I suck and I lose all interest in your X. ✌️

@janl I'd say, having learned Perl as one of the first scripting languages, you haven't missed much. The good parts were adopted by everybody else the rest is a Write-Only train wreck useful only for obfuscation and functioning ascii art contests :D (and yes I followed those back then) :D

@janl Ruby by now got kind of Perls disease - a million different ways to do the same thing, all the shortcuts all the concepts, all the syntactic cancer - it's actually insane. Pre 2.0 Ruby was fun and a reasonably sized language - now I can't recommend anyone starting with it.

@janl I'm at the point where I can't really enjoy any of the scripting languages … :D They're all going the route of: “Oh lets add this new concept and this new syntax”. Javascript even got classes 😂 … Javascript … Classes 😂 anyway let's leave it at that - happy evening! :D

So this sshd liblzma exploit / backdoor was only targeting linux. But why does sshd depend on liblzma? Well turns out that …

For every indie developer considering switching their software licence from a purchase (owning) to a subscription (renting) - please pretty pretty please offer a purchasable license option that is priced 3x yearly subscriptions.

Owning the software (license) is very important to me. I don't want a hundred 1-10$ monthly transactions for software AND the risk of losing access to the software in case I need to save money in a future point in time.

One payment and I'm good.

@janl @dnanian honestly since time machine was introduced i haven’t had a single issue with it - even in the dreaded HFS+ days. SuperDuper, which uses rsync iirc is of course fine as well but the faevents api and applefs seem pretty solid to me as well. :)

I'm trying to extract info from a mailman 2 (python) pickle file. However mailman 2 ran on python 2.7 which I no longer have access to. Trying to load the pickle file (config.pck) complains "ValueError: source code string cannot contain null bytes”

Trying to just remove the null bytes seems to break the pickle format.

Does anyone have suggestions / ideas how to deal with this?

Ok today starts with one of those magic moments I had many times on twitter but not yet on Mastodon.

Had a problem/burning question with a bleeding edge CSS issue, found Rachel Andrew who wrote books about similar topics and works in the Chrome team, discovered that she's on mastodon, asked her for advice / help not expecting a response but she actually responded right away.

Now I have some clarity from much closer to the <source>

@promovicz @mrtoto Den Herrn L. lass ich hier mal raus, da er mich blockt muss ich uneingeloggt schauen worauf ihr hier antwortet. Noch so ein Fediverse Feature wäre, dass ich das dann gar nicht sehen muss. Anyway: War das nicht nur ne Verwarnung da nen CW dran zu machen (was ja nur nötig ist wenn man das auch in die Local TL spülen will)?

Und was die Entscheidung der Admins ist ist die Entscheidung der Admins … deine Entscheidung kann sein: Find ich doof, geh' ich woanders hin.

Also Politik wird ja weder verboten noch irgendjemand ersthaft strafrechtlich verfolgt :D Ich finde diese ganze Debatte soooo unnötig hochpulsig aber vielleicht habe ich auch was nicht verstanden. Ich konnte und kann diese ganze aufgebauschte Aufregung bei nem Federated Service echt 0 nachvollziehen - es sei denn man verbindet eine Art Ego mit der Deutungshoheit über die “Regeln" anderer Leute Service.

Now with the help of “WSPR" aka “Weak Signal Propagation Reporter" and historic records of interference.
