ioslife,

I tried playing the first last year. Got 2 hours in and grew tired of it. The random encounters were too annoying.

ioslife,

FiOS makes the most sense to follow the naming convention.

AltStore also already exists

ioslife,

Except most of Reddit of bots now too lol

12% 401(k) Contribution - What to do? [USA]

Hi everyone, I recently landed a new job where the base 401(k) contribution for all FTEs is 12% of your salary. This is regardless of your contribution, with no additional match. I realize that this is unusual for most people and it is for me as well. In my last job, I got up to a 6% match so I maxed that out and didn't think on...

ioslife, (edited )

Max out your Roth IRA ($7000 this year) before contributing extra to 401k. Do a mutual fund, not crypto or single companies. A target retirement date index fund is a good start.

ioslife,

Oh hell yeah. That was a big issue when I tried out gOS last year.

ioslife,

10 and 2 is actually no longer taught. 9 and 3 is the new thing

ioslife,

Yeah but AI is a buzz word and hating it is fun at the current moment!

User reports Google Maps proposed a sponsored detour to a trip (paquita.masto.host)

Original toot in Spanish says: “OK, so I need some alternatives to Google Maps, because I just decided seconds ago to stop using it after I got proposed a trip with a completely unnecessary detour which adds two extra minutes just because it pass by a gas station that sponsors this trip.”

ioslife,

Anyone seen this? One post from one user with no verification behind it seems like nothing to get upset over.

ioslife,

You’re right. It’s really funny that the same people that champion interoperability always shit on Apple products and talk about how they should just end.

Introducing nitiOS, a FOSS SwiftUI app for browsing Nitter on your iOS device. (lemmy.sdf.org)

This is a super early alpha build, but I am ready to start having people provide their feedback. The current build allows for following profiles, searching for Tweets, opening X/Twitter and Nitter links in the app, chaging your Nitter instance, and more....

ioslife,

I like Kagi and have been using since September. Just wish they could prove they aren’t logging anything.

ioslife,

Ente is cool, but not cheap. Immich is free.

What does AI have to do with your NAS being less secure?

ioslife,

But that wouldn’t happen if your NAS is your backup solution, right?

ioslife,

Now that makes sense. Didn’t realize we were talking about back ups!

Any reason you don’t just encrypt before backing up?

ioslife,

No worries! Curious your thoughts on it if you decide to check it out more.

Your Smart TV Knows What You’re Watching (themarkup.org)

These TVs can capture and identify 7,200 images per hour, or approximately two every second. The data is then used for content recommendations and ad targeting, which is a huge business; advertisers spent an estimated $18.6 billion on smart TV ads in 2022, according to market research firm eMarketer.

sentinel9501, to protonprivacy

@protonprivacy why have you released calendar 'month view' for iOS but not Android at the same time?
I adore Proton's entire suite but some updates/features seem to take forever.

ioslife,

This question, but calendar widget for android and not iOS
